Harvard Supplement Essay: the same every year?

I need to start writing the essay for Harvard's supplement sometime before August. Because the prompt says "Possible Topics" above the 5 prompts that they give (check it out:
http://www.admissions.college.harvar...ement_1011.pdf) does that mean that we could potentially write about something else?

If not, are these prompts usually the same? They seem pretty basic. Is it probable that I can go ahead and write on one of these topics (like the one about a travel experience) and it will still be applicable come August when the updated application comes out?

Thanks!

harvard pretty much does an “open topic” option, so it really doesn’t matter the topics, you can basically write whatever you want. The supplement essay is also optional.

Alyssaz is correct. Harvard generally has a “write anything” topic and is optional.
