Who’s on the bandwagon? I know I won’t make it but writing the apps made me more and more inclined to think I might have a teeny tiny bit of a chance…
Hah me. It’s nice to know there’s other people out there.
I applied too. All my materials have finally been marked as received.
I applied! I’m very much aware that it’s pretty much impossible, but a professor who’s been helping me with the process encouraged me to apply. He said that if I’m not getting reject from a few places, I’m not applying ambitiously enough.
I think I could have done better on my essays, but I’m relieved to have it out of my hands. It’s going to be a long couple of months.
Good luck, guys!
Which concentration are you guys applying for? I applied for “philosophy” as my primary and “the comparative studies of religions” as my secondary.
I applied for the History and Literature concentration.
Music…
hopefully we won’t be competing with each other!
Applied as economics major. Hoping they understand that my current institution is not suitable for someone who still cherishes the idea of college being four years of intellectual development and not four years of liver/lung abuse…
Also applied from a school like this ^^^. Worth taking a 1% chance over a 0% chance, right?
I applied too, but after few years hiatus from college…I tried undergraduate scea, & not just to Harvard. But it seems they’re the only ones who moved me from the ‘homey scea pool’ to ze shark tank! Godspeed gentle(wo)men.
“hopefully we won’t be competing with each other!”
That was the reason for my question. haha
Didn’t want to compete with other “philosophers.” But I’m sure there will be some.
I have also sent my years-awaited 2015 Harvard transfer application. To get a sense of the competition, what are people’s top extracurriculars like? GPA? Past institution? (if I’m allowed here to ask - new to this site, registered just for this thread)
@student1117 Sharing stats is standard practice on College Confidential, so you’re good.

Other Stuff:
- I work for a unique, well-known nonprofit organization; I started out as a volunteer when I was sixteen and was offered a job last year. I have worked on many campaigns including a victory against child slavery, a victory for net neutrality, a deconstruction of the culture of silence surrounding economic inequality, an annual book drive raising over 200,000 books for underserved communities, and more.
- I was involved with my school’s newspaper throughout high school, working my way up from staff reporter to editor-in-chief. I led a complete redesign to attract a new, wider audience. I won dozens of awards through our state scholastic press association, including first place, all-state, and best-of-the-best awards at the state level. After graduating, I was invited to speak at the annual conference. I also served as president of Quill and Scroll.
- I attended a selective three-week journalism workshop at the University of Miami.
- I write for an entertainment news site, but have taken a break from it this semester.
- I’ve been published in a book.
I have good letters of recommendation from two professors and my boss.
I’m very, very aware the odds are against me - not just because it’s Harvard, but because I’m a community college student with a terrible high school transcript - and am prepared for rejection. I just want to make sure that I’ll never have to say it was for lack of trying.
Good luck, guys!
I am with you guys, an international applicant studying in the U.S.
For those of you who have already set up your applicant portal thing, does it show your mailed-in items as received yet? I’m not freaking out just yet, but I am curious if everyone who’s already had transcripts and dean’s reports sent in has them marked as received in the portal.
Honestly I contacted my high school counselor on February 17 about my secondary school report and it wasn’t marked as received until March 2 or so… I think it just takes a while to process.
I have sent my college transcript and dean’s report about 2 weeks before the application was due, and it hasn’t been marked off until a couple of days after the deadline. It just takes some time for processing
Solid. Thanks, guys! These are the first in a long line of application jitters for a university I’ve already resigned myself to being rejected from. Transfer logic.
I’m also applying. My two best friends both go to Harvard, and though they both were top students and had high test scores there was nothing extraordinary about either of them. People do get into Harvard!
@Transfer1011 Cool! What are your stats/ECs?
