HARVARD TRANSFER Fall2010

I just submitted my supplementary application to Harvard (using Universal App). Is there anyone applying for transfer to Harvard? Let's share some thoughts and feelings..

Same with me submitted mine today as well… hope it’s not too late-I already checked and I misspelled something I can’t believe it! So unlucky. Hconfidential are you a sophomore or junior transfer? I wonder how many people are applying from CC…

Just submitted my application tonight. Going to submit the supplement tomorrow afternoon. (Hopefully they’re okay with that.)

Stats/background anyone?

Although I am not a harvard transfer, I want to wish everyone good luck!

I submitted three supplements at midnight, and still cannot sleep.

htransfer- I am a junior transfer. At the top of supplement there is a box to check if we are sophomore or junior transfer and says “important”…does it mean they select each separately? by the way My stats are

College GPA: 3.85
SAT1: 2360
SAT2: didnt submit
AP: five 5s and two 4s
School: decline to say
High shcool GPA: dont remember…upper 30%?
EC: not much but enough, i think
Essay: Very Appealing academic reason (Central part of my application), both universal app and supplement essays mentioned my academic reasons

And…are they REALLY going to admit only 10-20 out of 1100? Its unfair…they used to admit 80 and then 40 and now 20?

I don’t think there will be over 1000+ applicants. I think there will be less. I just don’t see that many people applying. I’m a junior transfer too, how many people u think applied as juniors?

Also a junior transfer.
College GPA: 4.0 (Junior College)
SAT1: 2050ish :frowning:
SAT2: didnt submit

High shcool GPA: atrocious.
EC: a lot
Essay: Literally will either get me in, or get my application thrown away.

ps. do you think my lackluster SAT score is like an automatic disqualification?

htransfer- I am trying to be optimistic to think that 1) there would be less applicants because of two years of hiatus 2)more junior appliacants than sophomores are to be admitted…But I dont know…

RileyJohn- I cant judge you but your GPA seems perfect…I dont know how’s your SAT going to affect your application…

I just submitted mine last night… I’m sophomore transfer, and I also wanna know how many people are transferring…

Is it official fact that they are going to admit only 10-20?..

I assume there would be around 800 applicants? hmm

My SAT’s are in the high 1800’s. I don’t believe SAT’s really matter as a junior transfer. I think if you go to a good school and have solid reasons for transferring, the chances aren’t that bad. What’d you guys put for reasons for transferring?

I’m not applying as a Harvard transfer but I will next year if it’s still open. I just wanted to say good luck to you guys. It must be a scary process.

"Is it official fact that they are going to admit only 10-20?.. "

[College To Resume Accepting Transfer Applications | The Harvard Crimson](College To Resume Accepting Transfer Applications | News | The Harvard Crimson)

“The College now expects to admit between 10 and 20 students who have completed one to two years of study at another college or university, according to Director of Transfer Admissions E. Marlene Vergara Rotner.”

for harvard they actually sign your acceptance letter by HAND!!! unlike every other school that just places a stamp or whatever…awesome!!!

Hconfidential: Yes, as that article says, they probably will only take 10-20 people. On the bright side though, I doubt there will be 1000 or more applicants. Why? Firstly, many people are still probably under the impression that Harvard doesn’t take transfers, so they probably haven’t bothered to apply. Second, because Harvard chose to use Universal Application instead of Common Application, which is less popular, some people probably won’t want to do the work it takes to file another type of application. I’m not saying a lot of people will have been discouraged by the Universal Application, but it probably has discouraged at least a few people. Beyond that, this is Harvard, so many people may have felt that it was too far of a reach to justify writing an application or paying the $75. Finally, the economy’s still pretty terrible, so there will probably be some people who won’t apply because they feel that they can’t pay a Harvard tuition in this economic climate. These last few factors probably haven’t dissuaded masses of people, but I would not be surprised if a few people were put off of filing a transfer application for these reasons.

I’d still expect a low admittance rate of 5% or less, but you had to know that when you applied. This is Harvard after all, so getting in was always going to be enormously difficult. Don’t get too hung up on getting in to Harvard. There are lots of other great schools out there, so it’s not the end of the world by any means if you don’t get into Harvard. I hope this helps you relax, or at least lowers your stress a bit. I think that’s something a lot of transfer applicants need around this time of year.

Thanks actually 5% sounds more relaxing that 1-2%…

Count me in, motha****assssssssssss

Sorry if I scared you with the 10-20 stat, Hconfidential. Tsakashvili has a lot of good points. I’ve seen that a lot of people are still uninformed. I mentioned “Harvard transfer” a couple times, and someone always jumps to inform me that Harvard doesn’t take transfers.

Lobzz, good luck to you as well! I hope you don’t mind me asking, but do you wanna share your stats?

Good luck, guys! I’m not applying, but it’s interesting to see who is. I wish you all the best.

Can’t wait to see the ecstatic “I got into Harvard!!!” posts in a little less than two months :D
