that was a good post.
I think they should accept you at least cuz you know your game and theirs =P

Why thanks, I would agree… ;D

But I hope we all have a very good shot this year.

So, what are you guys doing as you wait for Harvard’s decision?

studying for finals :(

Midterm Papers, Final Papers, and a Final “Project.”
Praying.

Just kidding, that last part is such a high school thing to do… Decisions should come out the week of my finals, so I am well distracted by day-to-day things (at least while I’m away from CC).

However, I am not so distracted by the day-to-day that I forget why I want to transfer, so it is indeed unavoidably on my mind… The most powerful remedy for this is playing music. :)

Revised and simplified answer:
Work and music.
etc.

:)

does anybody know the general strength of the applicant pool? how is everyone’s stats?

So far, I’m guessing GPA >3.7, some strong SATs, and a variety of ecs…

Called the admissions office to find out if my application is complete, because I did not receive any email about it. They said decisions would be released in late may. I don’t know how late though. I guess this means more calls for interviews would still be going out. Hang in there everyone!

Based on patterns from previous years, the earliest we’d find out is Monday, May 17 (three weeks from tomorrow). That’s a plenty big but certain window for them to start calling accepted students and mail out the letters for the rest by May 31.

Again, if it’s really a small applicant pool as we all hope, then it shouldn’t take them too long to deliberate.

I hazard a guess they look for those really big stand-out applicants who would add significantly to a department, but there can’t be that many, because if someone seems really successful he/she probably owes it to his/her current institution and wouldn’t change that. This type of selection would take no time at all and would be the “average” applicant’s “worst nightmare” because spots are being taken up fast. I think the kinds of “stats” wouldn’t be important for such a group of applicants, unless they raised eyebrows in other ways. Again, I expect that this is not too common, but it may be more noticeable given the very small number of transfers this year.

Then, they probably just look for the people who sincerely want Harvard most and seem to have the ambition and drive to be successful there, barring only those they think are not capable of academic success (and hence happiness) at Harvard (this means bad “stats” and recommendations “across the board”). The latter method, I speculate, takes only so few weeks because there are indeed substantial differences in the extent of people’s wants and ability to apply themselves at Harvard (“Stats” will be mostly the same and hence irrelevant). Admissions Officers are human, and given the “face” of an application they are presented with, they democratically select the applicants they can make a safe investment in based on intuition and their considerable past experience of what kinds of characters have been successful at Harvard and beyond.

Think of the beginning of James Bond: Casino Royale. The terrorists from the Congo wouldn’t invest in any old cronies; they had to see Le Chiffre, and they were impressed with his demeanor and “poker face.” Really, our applications are like our poker faces; we put our best ones forward. If we inspire confidence (an intuitive response) from the admissions officers, we get in; but, we can still mess things up when we get the investment (as Le Chiffre does). This just goes to show how imperfect admissions is, but in some ways intuitive selection is fair. Still, I think it’s an understandable process (despite not getting in as a freshman; I was waitlisted).

A thousand apologies for comparing Harvard admissions with fictional terrorists… ^_^

I really enjoyed reading it:)

How we know our chances are better than 2014 waitlistees: the Harvard transfer thread goes to page 3 and is mostly inactive…

10char+ bump!

I hope it is. Guys we need to keep this thread alive!

Ah ah ah ah stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive…

^More inspiration, applicable to us in so many ways. We’re still afloat in admissions. We’ve got finals coming up. It also happens to be the 100 beats per minute tempo for CPR…

Bring on that spring energy!

:)

100 beats per minute tempo for cpr ahah lol. Everytime I read what you write, it always seems to me like you are singing. I still can’t get over that user name. music, work, etc lol

You’ve got me spot on. I sing tons, haha. In fact, I hope music makes my app this time round. I so very badly want to sing in Harvard a cappella.

I called today and they said that decisions should be released around may 15!

There something almost Shakespearean about this fortnight feels:
Rather like it cometh suddenly much faster on new wheels.
Whatever this fate of sun and moon may at end opt to us deal,
Know that we all life’s same joys and eagerness do feel.
We, so unified, do not need theirs but have our own triumphant seal.
-MWetc

How’s that for original inspiration?

But holy…cow…that’s coming up soon!

Just called Harvard. The lady I spoke to said she didn’t even think interviews were offered at all for transfers. Either we have some liars, or admissions people aren’t the most informed/brightest people on the planet. :)

are we sure about this may15th date?

^(a long time ago)

It’d be pretty foolish to evaluate candidates based on their CC posts, especially since there is no sure way of verifying if a person is who they say they are or merely posing as someone else and posting their stats. Haha. That’s a little overboard.

The decisions will be done when they’re done… I know it’s hard to just ignore it, but I find it helpful to do just that. Focusing even more on my life and staying active keep me from thinking about it.
