What are the typical stats for a transfer to Harvard? Is anyone here a transfer to Harvard? I was wanting to, I may have no shot, so if I don't, be honest.

Transfer from Berkeley: 1st Sem GPA: 4.0, 2nd Sem GPA: who knows...
SAT I: 2020, SAT II Math: 700, SAT II Chem: 700
Went to Texas Academy of Math and Science for HS, fair amount of community servicec, lots of science fair, and lots of research

I have done research for several years now: like 4, next semester I will be conducting reseasrch at the Lawrence Berkely Nat'l laboratory.

Lots of programming experiencec, worked in startup last summer, great recs there

awesome faculty recs from Berkeley (quite close to some of the professors this semester)

I would really want to transfer really to get the undergraduate feel that I miss at going to a large impersonal public, and Harvard would be ideal, with lots of research just like berkeley, but also a strong emphasis on undergraduate, which it seems would be a good type of environment to be in to study too

what were your high school stats? if you're applying for sophomore standing, your high school grades and SATs (which aren't really high enough for Harvard, but are decent) will play a big factor, along with your high GPA at Berkeley.

Even for in-state applicants, if the student started at Berkeley, you can assume his stats are good enough to be admitted at almost any top 25 school.

OP, just realize that your high school stats and test scores will play a role in whether you are accepted because you only have one year of college. I personally would say retake, but am not sure if it's that big of a deal - I asked your high school stats because if you were val or very highly ranked, your high school stats will be enough. If you weren't a 'shoe-in' at Berkeley, you may not have as good of a shot at Harvard.

On the question of did I like TAMS, i LOVED tams, it was the best 2 years of my life

thanks for the inputs guys, anyone else have insights on whether you think I have a shot at this school. the other schools i am applying are UPenn, Columbia, Stanford, Chicago, and Cornell. Any chance at any of these you think? thanks

dont apply to chicago, because you will get in over me....haha i think you have a decent shot at all those schools, a 4.0 at Berkeley is really good

hey! I'm applying for transfer admission to Harvard from Duke. Your GPA is great...your scores could be higher though. They put you in the lower quartile of people applying. No one knows what does the trick...

heh, what is it about Chicago that everyone seems to be applying there. Is it primarily because it is a good school with decent transfer rate. I mean like they don't really get that many freshman applications...It's a really competitive school too...i'm thinking of going primarily because it is much smaller than berkeley and supposedly good undergraduate experience. like housing guaranteed for 4 years, and of coures its got a decent xfer rate, which is good to know.

yeahhhh, i know that my sat scores are kind of low, especially for harvard...but its worht a shot right? i mean, if i have great essays, then maybe I have a glimer of a shot, and thats all i need to try and apply. wow, applying from duke. why would you want to leave duke, that school is amazing. but good luck

Duke isn't a school for everyone...I won't lie, b-ball games are SO much fun especially because I'm in band and I don't have to wait in line for 3 days (literally). There's a lot I like about Duke...it's a beautiful campus, great in the sciences...but...I don't like the Southern atmosphere, overwhelming presence of Greek life, and the city it's in...it's really depressing to be in Durham and the city just lacks opportunities like Boston. Nevertheless, I highly encourage you to still apply to Duke for transfer admissions. I was speaking with Chris Guttentag who is the Undergraduate Admissions Director about transferring to Harvard and the qualitiies they look for, and he said it was pretty much what Duke was looking for. Last year, Duke only took 12 transfer students so yeah...I hope the number is higher this year. I had a 4.0 in high school with tons of AP classes but my GPA this semester at Duke was a 3.6. My SAT scores might help me (SAT!: 2270, SATII Chem: 800, Math II: 780, Spanish: 760) but I really don't know. I wish my first semester GPA was higher but there's nothing I can do now (stupid chemistry class!). anyways, good luck!!! btw, Berkeley is a great school, especially for your interests. :)
