Harvard Transfer (wannabes) Unite

No, I only applied last year.

do you mind my asking why it is then that you are spending so much time in this thread?

Because my brother will likely apply next year as a transfer student.

I don't understand how they can still be making decisions now and still send out e-mails and mails by tomorrow- doesn't ur file have to go thru the financial ad process (assuming u applied for f-aid) many days before decisions go out-

I'm just wondering given that the lady on the fone told Brian "we're trying our best"-

I mean even if they deliberated on one's file today and the person got in the person's file needs to pass thru financial aid for at least one day-
or isn't that the way the system works?

i guess we'll find out one way or another tomorrow....let's just hope it's tomorrow

congrats, bumpity! just noticed ur an official member on CC now...i think you win the award for the world's fastest membership lol

I am new to this threading stuff but to answer your question. I assume that since Harvard is "Need Blind" they accept your application and then your information goes through the financial aid process but this is speculation.
On another note does anyone have any idea how many people they are thinking of taking for transfer admission, and/or how many people applied total for transfer admissions?

lol! thanks bnx! Didn't even notice-

Ha! "Proudly a member~!!!!!"

CC rocks~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ClemsonTiger86, its been a long road here on CC, and normally you should have to go digging through the pages of this thread for that kind of basic info, but since I am trying to build good karma before the decision, I'll make it easy on you ;)

There are around 1100 transfer applicants; 75 will be accepted (50 for fall, 25 for spring)

Thanks for the info I know I am last min, just getting nerveous you know how it is.
anyways good luck.

thanks, you too!

keeping with the good Karma motif haha, I hope they tell us tommorrow I hear back from stanford tommorrow as well it could be a big day. Anyways what causes your attraction to harvard?

well, besides "it's harvard," i am drawn to the community there (the students, the house system, the fact that most undergraduates live on-campus), the core--which is completely reasonable (unlike at my current school), and the women's studies program (I am a women's studies major). Also, I am from mass. :) What about you?

Just like you "it's Harvard", also I visted a friend who goes there and it was such a pleasant contrast to my current institution. Students actually cared about important things like politics and could discuss things like politics or whatever logically. Otherwise I like that it is in Boston and I would like a Northern School experience and where better to get that along with diversity than at Harvard.

if any of you have the decision email for last year (accept or reject), could you please copy and paste the text so that we can see what it says? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following email was sent last year on Friday, 5/20 at 1:35pm.

Mr. Your Name
Dear Mr. Name,

I am very sorry to inform you that it is not possible to offer you a place
as a transfer student at Harvard College during the academic year
2005-2006. I wish I were writing to report a different decision, but the
competition was so rigorous that there were many outstanding young men and
women to whom we could not offer places.

This year the Committee on Transfer Admissions was faced with many
difficult decisions: nearly one thousand students applied for seventy-five
places in the sophomore and junior classes. The great majority of the
applicants could certainly have been successful here academically, and most
candidates presented strong personal and extracurricular credentials as
well. The Committee was therefore faced with the necessity of choosing
from a great many more talented and highly qualified students than it had
room to admit.

We can assure you that the Committee's deliberations were conducted with
the utmost care and with the knowledge that no one can predict with
certainty what an individual will accomplish during college or
beyond. Each application was reviewed thoroughly by admissions officers
before the selection meetings and then discussed and voted on by the
members of the Committee on Admissions.

We wish it were possible for us to admit more of our fine applicants. We
appreciate how difficult the college application process can be for
students and their families. However, we have learned from past experience
that the particular college a student attends is far less important than
what the student does to develop his or her strengths and talents over the
next few years.

We very much appreciate the interest you have shown in Harvard College, and
we hope that you will accept the best wishes of the Committee for success
in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Marlene Vergara Rotner
Director of Transfer Admissions
