harvard undergrad=no harvard medical school?

Is it true that harvard undergrads have a harder time getting into harvard medical school b/c the medical school wants more diversity?

yes, but why would u want to be in the same place for 8 years?

well harvard med school is the best...

but seriously, thats true?

No it's not... check out www.mdapplicants.com ..... I think Hopkins and Harvard are about tied in sending students to HMS....

Actually, there are a disproportionate number of Harvard undergraduates at HMS. According to last year's statistics, approximately 10 to 15 percent of Harvard undergraduates who applied to HMS were accepted. This is a huge percentile compared to the overall acceptance rate of 5%.

Check this WSJ story about "feeder schools" to the top grad programs:

And make sure to click on the list of top feeder schools from that article.

that's the biggest bs ever. going to harvard undergrad gives you A HUGE advantage for going to HMS. around 30 are accepted each year from harvard college to HMS.

The Harvard to HMS acceptance rate is 4x higher than the avg HMS acceptance rate.

i very much doubt that hopkins undergrad is tied with harvard in sending kids to HMS.

thats good news

thanks all!

Damn, that blows. I was hoping the acceptance rate was like 50%.

Haha, I hope you meant that sarcastically.

No, I really didn't. I thought most Harvard undergrads go pre-law or pre-business not pre-med.

Nope. In the end, about 150 to 200 students ultimately apply to medical school in each class of 1,650. Many do go pre-business, but many others do go into the non-profit sector, government jobs, teaching, and other variety of jobs or graduate schools after college.

It wouldn't make sense for HMS to take 50% of the people who apply for HMS from Harvard (around 80% of the pre-medical students do apply) since it would not look favorably on them at all.

Don't worry about it too much though. 99% of Harvard pre-meds get into at least one medical school.

zogoto: Actually, it is 91%.

close enough lol. so lets say i went to hopkins undergrad and did well, would i have a good shot at hms?

Shark_bite
that was a rather pointless question to ask. i don't think anyone on this board works for the HMS admissions. but if the answer "yes" comforts you, then yes. why don't you just try your best and do what you can to get into the best undergrad place for premed then go from there.

hey but this number doesn't account for the number of harvard grads who apply to grad school after a job or internship. Does anyone have that number? I would assume that most would not directly go to grad school.
