There is no EA/ED “equivalent.” They either offer it or they don’t. Annapolis does not have EA. They issued an LOA early, which does not violate Harvard’s policies. Congrats.
Do you guys think that there are already some final admissions decisions (acceptances, not rejections/deferrals)?
@skieurope He received an LOA (Letter of Assurance). I wasn’t sure anyone would know what that meant so I tried to put it in terms that I thought most people would understand. It’s my understanding that the service academies started issuing LOAs because private institutions were admitting students through EA/ED and the academies were missing out on some highly qualified candidates. So, my question is, would Harvard admissions want to know or would they care about this in terms of making a decision?
No worries; I understood the original question. My answer is the same. An SCEA application to Harvard is perfectly fine with a concurrent application to any SA.The fact that your son received an LOA does not matter. So no, Harvard does not need to know, nor do they care. You (or rather your son) can certainly tell Harvard, but it won’t impact whatever Harvard’s decision was going to be.
Other than recruited athletes? No.

After reading all of these posts I decided to research deferral coping strategies. Good read for all in the next couple of weeks.
@nrsebayer lol I just read that this morning!
@skieurope you have great advice. Thanks for moderating the thread. You have a solid answer for everything
I was just about to say the same thing about @skieurope. Great feedback!
How do you guys think the lawsuit is going to impact admissions this year? If at all?
Probably not much but i bet Asian acceptance rate goes up slightly while whites decrease. URMs should be stable.
I’m not sure they can reliably change their admissions process this year without admitting they had done something wrong in previous years, even if that is not the case. My guess is that things will be looked at closely, but admissions stats will stay the same and so will how they evaluate prospective students.
@Euclid314 I don’t think the lawsuit will have any impact on admissions. If the Asian acceptance rate goes up significantly, they are implicitly admitting to previous wrongdoing and thus incriminating themselves.
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a distinct breakdown of ACT scores showing the ethnicity of top scoring students. I’ve seen an average score for certain ethnicities but not something such as all students who scored a 36 were such and such. Thus how could anyone know or prove that a certain group was being discriminated against especially since Harvard is extremely big on SPIKES or standouts in certain areas vs ACT/GPA scores.
Do you guys have any tips on how to relax and forget about the early applications?
@worldwide1 Netflix is the best flix
Zero. Future years…well, depends on the outcome.
Agree with @justaguy4321 - bingewatch
Hey US students, how long was your college interview?
@adMITed , are you an international student who has been offered an interview?
