@qwerty66 @skieurope How many applicants do admissions officers review/discuss in full committee?
If it is reviewed (not all supplements are), it will be reviewed by faculty.
I legit don’t have any national awards Or perfect scores or anything. Just Project 351, sold other leadership, music, and some sports so I’m definitely scoring a lot of 3s
@“rêveuse” as far as ik, no applicant is admitted without being discussed in full committee, so that’s at least over 2000, plus the ones they end up deferring, some rejects as well, so a lot of applications.
@lilyfullford
what what you describe Project 351 may bring you to 1/1- on EC or personal
@lilyfullford same, maybe a 2-/3+ in ecs for my leadership and research but who knows.
And I agree with @skieurope about just waiting to see what our decisions are but at this point I am so anxious that I am literally just trying to pass the time by doing all these predictions.
Would an abstract be reviewed by faculty and do you think that would have a separate rating?
@skieurope
we are both right. A College hopeful who gets a “2” extracurricular rating typically has “significant school, and possibly regional accomplishments”—for example, an applicant who was “student body president or captain of the debate team and the leader of multiple additional clubs.”
@lilyfullford 3 in sports, 2 in academics likely. Not sure about EC now. Might still be a 1 just because it’s a Massachusetts project.
My DD received the email right before the Thanksgiving break and submitted the material over the Thanksgiving weekend. The internal file showed the faculty was asked to evaluate the material and the applicant before the full committee met for her docket on Dec.1st. Presumably, there was a week between her submission and the full committee meeting.
I heard a case of a competitive public high school valedictorian whose EC definitely warranted a “1” and merit scholarships were more than enough to cover everything. Result: waitlisted!!
@skieurope Are internationals from Africa and Latin America considered URMs?
URM basically only applies to domestic applicants. Any bump given to an international applicant is more than negatively offset by the fact that they are an international applicant.
@x2019x I totally relate (525)
Hi! I have been following this thread, and it has been quite helpful.
I wanted to ask a question. I immigrated to the United States with my little brother and mother 4.5 years ago from South America and taught myself English on 8th grade (middle school), so I have been able to study in a public high school in the United States (like a domestic student).
@skieurope Do you happen to know if I will be considered as an international or domestic applicant? Will my application be affected positively or negatively? Thanks!
@123stringtheory You’ll be a domestic applicant if you have citizenship or permanent status. If you have a temporary visa, you’ll be considered an international applicant.
As a litmus test, if you can apply for FAFSA financial aid, then you’re a domestic applicant. If not, you’re probably an international application.
The exception here is DACA, which are still domestic applicants.
If you’re international, no matter where you went to school, it’ll badly impact you app. just because American schools are much more inclined to take students who are citizens of their country.
I had a friend last year who lived in the U.S for his entire life, but found out that he was an applicant because his parents were there on a work visa. And he got denied from schools that we would’ve gotten into just because he was an international student.
@worldwide1 I’m a domestic applicant!
@Euclid314 correctly answered the question for the most part. AFAIK, Harvard has not specifically said that DACA applicants are part of the domestic pool of applicants for admissions, they have said that undocumented students are eligible for FA. Compare to Cornell,which explicitly states that DACA applicants are part of the domestic pool for admissions:

Did anyone else upload additional materials through slideroom? Would they all be reviewed?
No; it’s at the discretion of the AO.
