Will I be penalized if I did not submit my application, supplements, and test scores by 10/15? Also, I completed everything in the portal checklist when I submitted by application, but I just realized that I never filled out the self-report form for my test scores in the portal. What is the difference between self-reporting your scores on the Common App and self-reporting your scores in the Harvard Portal?
@stressedsen19r im pretty sure the self report form in the portal is just another way self report your scores. If the checklist indicates that they’ve received your scores you should be fine.
You are an applicant from the country of residence/citizenship. In the case of @isicim012 , the applicant is from Nigeria, but the application was read by the AO who handles the UK
@skieurope But as we already clarified for my son he will be in competition with applicants from UAE, though he is citizen of Belarus. I think for isicim012 it is mean that he will be in competition with another applicants from UK, not with Nigerians. Does it correct?
@Alezzz I don’t know the answer to your question, but I would guess that intl. applicants compete against other applicants from the region assigned to their AO in the first two rounds of the admissions process. My guess would be that Africa is one region, Latin America another region, Southwest Asia another region, and so on…
For the final committee, intl. applicants likely compete against all other intl. applicants, although they surely take geography into account to build a diverse class.
@Alezzz You can see your country/region’s representation at Harvard here: www.hio.harvard.edu/statistics
You are conflating “How will my application be reviewed?” with “How will I be categorized?”
Regardless, your son’s circumstances are unique to your son. @isicim012 is neither a UK resident nor citizen (if I’m reading correctly), but attends school in the UK.In **that[/b ] instance, his/her application will be read by the AO handling the UK and will be viewed in context with other applicants from his/her school (if any), but will still be classified as Nigerian. @Alezzz
Similarly, if an international applicant were attending Choate Rosemary Hall, he would be reviewed by the AO handling Choate, compared to other applicants from Choate, but would still be considered international for admissions purposes. Attending Choate does not make him a domestic applicant.
@skieurope No, the situation is that I have both Nigerian and UK citizenship. My primary residence is in Nigeria. I’m only in the UK for high school. But at all other times, I’m in Nigeria. In this situation, am I classified as Nigerian, British, or both (or just international)
Wow, still no decision date…
Ah, OK. I do not believe that they double count multinationals, where neither is US. So my guess is that, for classification, the tiebreaker would be country of residence. So Nigeria. But again, you app will still be evaluated compared to any other applicants from your school. @isicim012
No decision date announced yet.
@skieurope Is it safe to assume they will announce decision date through Twitter on the morning of that same day?
ahahaha never mind
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
YAWN. Guys, it means nothing. We go through this every year. You should assume that any “loophole” that a 17 y/o applicant has “discovered” has long ago been closed by the more experienced AO and/or IT guy. You only have a few days to go. Just chill.
How did Harvard announce the date it would release decisions in previous years? Did applicants get an email or was it solely through Twitter? @skieurope
I don’t recall all the various methods. I know it was on Twitter, and I think on the portal, and I do not recall there having been an email.
Does everyone have this in their source code listed twice on their account page?
(If you go to your page, then control-click, you’ll see a bar that says “Inspect.” Click it and then within the box do control-f for “admitted” to see if you have it)
@jaygatsbyy I have it. I think everyone has it, but IDK
Wait how do you do that hahah
@skieurope I am from FL but have been going to UWC in the UK for the last 2 years. Which AO would be reading ap?
@lilyfullford Try going to your application status page, control-clicking anywhere, and then doing control-f within the high-tech looking thing that pops up on the right side of the screen
