Absent a major hook, 3.7 will be a struggle unless you are attending an academically challenging school with grade deflation and that gpa is in the top 10%. But gpa is just one part of holistic review
For college admissions, weighted gpa is pretty meaningless since there is no standard weighting metric. The college will either reweight or look at the UW plus rank plus rigor.
Agreed, a weighted GPA is practically useless in many ways. Because I could take a bunch of easy 5s and bump up my weighted GPA. What will be reviewed is the difficulty of the AP/number of increasingly difficult AP/number of APs taken vs. APs offered. Complex math from what I can see.
That said, we APs are still not a requirement. So, where would a candidate stand if they have no Scores and no APs but only ECs?
Question: How would Harvard differentiate a candidate in the top 10% (rated by school) from a strong candidate from a school that does not have a rating system?
These AP rankings are misleading IMO. No, AP Physics C is not one of the easiest tests while Physics 1 is one of the hardest. The difference is that many and all types of students may take P1 as there is no significant Math requirement while no student that isnât already very strong in Stem chooses to take PC.
The same can be said of Environmental Science. The stronger students will take something like AP Bio/Chem while others will take Enviro because they think the class will be easier but struggle with the test.
Follow up: Do you know the day Harvard reported for the last few years? I recall last yr was Thursday Dec 16, bu I donât recall the years before that.
My daughter is a current Harvard student who entered the fall of 2020. She did receive an email a few days prior to them releasing their notifications as a regular decision candidate, they gave the day and time, and then she had to log into her portal to see the results. They usually release around 7 PM and itâs usually on a Thursday. So my best guess is this Thursday, December 15 but I donât know anything official and my son hasnât gotten an email yet.
As has been mentioned in another post, Harvard usually sends an email to applicants announcing when they will post results. Applicants then need to log on to the portal to get the actual decision themselves. Results are NOT sent in emails to students. At least, they havenât been in the past.
In the past, Harvard has usually announced the date and time of results a few days before the release date. And, as has been mentioned, for the last four years Harvard released results on the Thursday closest to December 15 at 7 PM EST.
All of which means that IF Harvard is going to release results this Thursday, December 15, then they should make such an announcement in the next day or two.
However, NO ONE really knows. Harvard could do anything they want to! They could wait another week. They could release on Friday rather then Thursday this year.
Did anyone here receive an email from Harvard saying they will release Early action on DEcember 15. My friends got an email from Princeton and Yale for their early action. If anyone from Harvard received it, please let us know
