Are they looking at people on the waitlist now?
Interesting points.
Total Fall 2021 undergraduate enrollment was 7095 [https://oir.harvard.edu/fact-book/enrollment.]
Total Fall 2019 undergraduate enrollment was 6740 [https://oir.harvard.edu/files/huoir/files/harvard_cds_2019-2020.pdf.]
So, there are 355 more undergraduates this year compared to the last pre-pandemic year.
I think it is reasonable to think, as you do, that this reduces motivation to go to the waitlist this year.
Approximately how many kids do they put on the waitlist at Harvard? I heard it’s only 200-300 vs thousands at other schools. Even still, the likelihood of getting off the waitlist is so slim since the yield is so high (mid 80’s). My D is still clinging on to the hope of getting off the waitlist but I wish she would just move on. First deferred, then waitlisted. It’s been a torturous process.
Harvard does not publish how many it puts on its waitlist.
The waitlist is likely to be much more than 200-300 for the simple reason that Harvard rejects about 300 applicants with Harvard lineage in an average year, about two thirds of such applicants. I would expect most of those to end up on the waitlist as a soft rejection.
Will they wait until MAy 1st to look at wasitlist applicants or are they looking now?
Are there any updates yet?
In the past, they have waited until a few weeks after the commitment date before there has been any waitlist movement. I dont see why this year would be any different. When we went through this (pre covid) there were several waves of people accepted from and released from the waitlist over the course of the summer. Good luck.
Every year there is a thread with a lot of angst about the Harvard waitlist. I really hope that people on the waitlist are focusing on a school they would be happy to attend. The odds of acceptance are slim. Harvard is famous and prestigious but there are many schools that offer an experience as good as (or in my opinion possibly better) than Harvard. Good luck to everyone wherever they end up!
Any news on the Harvard waitlist for class of 2026?
- Any offers?
- Gap year requirement?
- Funding offered?
lol, nothing here. we should likely be hearing something w/in the next two weeks though (based on how it usually is) if there is going to be any movement this year…
A lot of people from the Yale Bull Dogs day, said they were taking Yale over Harvard after going to harvards admitted student event, so maybe there will be extra space for waitlisted students?
not sure if it’ll be enough to dent the 80%+ yield
When will we have more info about waitlist?
Anyone know of any waves of acceptances?
Any movement or updates?
nope, none here yet
When will we know?
Usually around mid May, so I’m assuming Friday, or more likely the following week
Hopefully, it will be, the margins are quite small, so even something like this could make a difference, perhaps even doubling the percent of those off the waitlist. Though in all honestly, no point in worrying too much, waitlists are essentially soft rejections.
