Cornell… low reach
UofC…Reach
Harvard & Yale…Big reach

Your UW GPA is simply too low for the Harvard and Yale type schools. Unless you get an athletic scholarship I would not expect to get into any HYPS. You have a shot at cornell and chicago, but they aren’t that great. Best of luck to you.

Hmm… would being a URM w/ a 3.75 really hurt me?

URM will help, 3.75 will hurt you. I think you have a shot, but Harvard and Yale expect people to be in the top 1-2% of your class and have a 3.9+ UW GPA with the most rigorous courses possible. You did take a lot of hard classes, but I don’t think your chances for Harvard or Yale are too high. Cornell and UofC are between a high match and a reach. Good luck, and don’t forget to enjoy yourself. You WILL get into a great school, whether it is one of the four you mentioned or not.

Also, if you know anything about engineering schools chance me at the link above please. Thanks.

Not Op, but still bumping out of curiosity.

^really, guys? I think Cornell and Chicago are match/low reaches. Your GPA isn’t that bad; clearly you have a difficult course load with all those APs. And those high scores are pretty impressive. The only meh part are the extracurriculars. They are above average, but not amazing. Harvard and Yale are Reaches. I think you will get into one of those two, though.

Yeah, your GPA and scores are decent, but your ECs are a bit weak, but you definitely have a pattern which is very good. Course rigor is awesome and definitely makes up for having a decent GPA. You sound like me, someone who really enjoys learning. YIG is awesome, and your newspaper internship is great. Besides that, they are a little weak. Your volunteer hours are around what most other applicants have. Also it doesn’t matter your schools sports reputation. If you are insinuating that you are better than those D1 recruits, then why are you not one? Not saying your cocky, but the captain is the best or at least one of the best players on the team. Your URM status will help definitely. Cornell is low reach/high match, as your stats are around average for their acceptances, but ECs are a bit more weak. As for UofC, it could range from low reach to high reach depending on essays. Harvard and Yale are high reaches as for everyone, but URM acceptance is even more random than regular so deff apply. Good Luck.

Thanks for the feedback guys. And to answer your question about the athlete thing Ambitious, I am one of the best but I’m also captain because of leadership. You don’t have to be the best player to be captain. I’m also not implying that I’m one of the best, there’s no I in team. Anyhow, I thought these schools don’t give out athletic scholarships.

They don’t. But they can still recruit athletes. They are the ones who inflate ED numbers.

Oh wow cool. Thanks.

Being Hispanic is unfortunately not much of a boost these days, there are many highly qualified Hispanic candidates at top schools.

@Waverly Seriously? o.O That doesn’t sound right… I thought Hispanics still do benefit from AA, although some more than others. (Mexicans and PR’s)

Anyway; I think you’ll probably get into one of those schools… Maybe not Harvard or Yale, but I think Cornell will accept you… Especially if you go ED.

Good luck! :)

I think if you can get your GPA up to a 3.9 or 4.0 Cornell and UChicago could become low reaches/high matches. Harvard/Yale is a reach for anyone.
