Harvard Visitas + Harvard Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent Harvard Class of 2027 admit and was interested in attending Harvard Vistas on April 23-24. I also got admitted into Yale Class of 2027 and wanted to go to Bulldog Day on April 24-26 as well. I’m from Texas and interested in concentrating in government/political science.

I was planning on making my final decision between the two schools after going to Vistas and Bulldog Day. I’m flying alone from Texas into Boston and wanted to plan out logistics for getting from Harvard to Yale (whether that is by bus or train).

I’d also like any advice possible in making my decision - some categories I care about are location, transport, extracurricular access and competitiveness, undergraduate opportunities/support, and vibe, but any advice is helpful!

The decision variable that is critical is vibe- time to trust your gut! All the others are either relatively trivial (transport) or are essentially comparable (opps/support).

Train is a super easy option - 2 hours and can be very inexpensive. If the fares are running high for your dates the Peter Pan is 2.5 hours (but only runs 1x/day iirc), and the Greyhound bus is 3.5 hours. Taxi or Uber from the station to the campus (about 1.5 miles).

Congratulations on two wonderful acceptances. Your best bet to get to New Haven from Boston is the train - I believe that one goes out of South Station. You can get to South Station from Cambridge using a combination of the red & orange lines. It’s cheap and direct. Of course, you can always Uber although, depending on traffic, that could take longer. I can’t speak to Yale, but Harvard is right in Harvard square which is pretty bustling. You can access Boston proper very quickly via the red line if you find yourself wanting more to do. Boston is a great city for young people (I lived there myself for 12 years) although it can be expensive. NYC is very accessible from New Haven via Metro North (lived in NYC suburbs too) - it takes about an hour to Grand Central via express train. As I attended neither school I can’t speak to the student experience or academics although I’d assume they are both fantastic.
