What a dilemma…oh what shall we do

rice, no question

Rice '14 baby!!! Better people, better life.

I’d have to choose Harvard because it’s so much closer to where I live (suburb of NYC), which would make it much more feasible (and I can actually make myself believe this is the reason why I’d choose Harvard).

Some would say ‘Harvard’ automatically due to prestige, selectivity, and what they think is the ‘duh’ factor. Granted, the connections you make at Harvard >> any other place. But many would argue Rice undergrad/quality of life trumps Harvard, which is notorious for allocating resources for grad students. What would be a better question is a comparison with Princeton.

The answer to this question would also depend on $$. Harvard gives more financial aid but Rice obviously gives great merit based aid.

My son applied to Rice and not Harvard, even though Harvard’s app was much easier and he had as much chance as anyone of getting in. Harvard probably would have given more $$. But both of us would choose Rice for quality of life issues (undergrad support, House system). His father would promptly die of a heart attack about the choice GeekSon (would have) made.

@SaintSaens, your powers of self-deception are truly phenomenal. They will serve you well in life. ;)

I am also good at deceiving others.

Do we really know if this is true? I find that this gets perpetuated by people who were rejected, people who know very little about Harvard and think it revolves around its law school, and people at peer, rival colleges.

That is quite a dilemma, isn’t it? Has anybody else been in this situation? I was having a bit of difficulty deciding between the two…
