Harvard vs Stanford for non-techie

I find myself in the enviable position of choosing between Harvard and Stanford, though I am now conflicted between which I should ultimately choose. Hoping the CC community can impart their opinions and thanks in advance. A little about me: I am a social science kid with interests in economics and policy planning on going the finance route. Money and location are not an issue.
I went to both Stanford’s Admit Weekend and Visitas, and I enjoyed Admit Weekend much more. Although I applied to Harvard early, Visitas left me slightly disappointed in the campus and less enthusiastic about attending. I know that Harvard has the prestige, the excellence in social sciences, and more connections/opportunities to network in the East Coast for finance while Stanford is more known for its engineering departments. If I were a techie, I would absolutely go to Stanford, as I loved the vibe of campus when I visited and, in general, had a better time (and better weather). But as a non-techie, what should I do? Although I definitely enjoyed Stanford more in the two days I was there, people tell me that Harvard is the place to be for finance.

Both have good economics departments. Stanford intermediate economics courses require a higher math level (uses linear algebra and multivariable calculus). Harvard offers a similar higher math version, but also offers a lower math version (uses single variable calculus).

I think you’re splitting hairs academically, for undergrad. Do you see yourself going to grad school? If so, that would give Stanford more of a green light because you’d probably choose your grad program to be nearer NYC/D.C. If not, it’s hard to turn down Harvard in those particular subject areas and for its proximity to the job market. But really, you shouldn’t go wrong either way.

I guarantee you that firms want Stanford grads, too.

investment banks/financial firms in NY do have more of a relationship with Harvard but I don’t think you’d miss out on much coming from Stanford.

Harvard definitely has the prestige when it comes to finance but I don’t think you’ll have any trouble landing a job with a Stanford degree. Personally if I were you I’d pick Stanford specifically for the vibe.
