Harvard vs Stanford?

I've posted this in the Harvard forum so it is only fair I post this here.

This is the conundrum those who have been accepted to both Harvard and Stanford face. I've been accepted to Harvard so I am only halfway there and it probably took every bit of my past and future's luck to get to that point. If however, I happen to be the ~2% (or some ridiculous number like that?) who gets accepted to Stanford RD, where should I go?

The two main things I am looking for are compsci and fun. I know Stanford has the ranking and Silicon Valley, but Harvard is Harvard and has Mark Zuckerberg. Stanford is in Cali but secluded and Harvard is in Cambridge/Boston but cut-throat competition. So what do you guys think?

You should plan on going to Harvard since you are not admitted to Stanford.

Used to be Harvard got a majority of the cross admits went to Harvard but it is not longer the case. There is almost a 50 percent split these days for cross admits. It is as good as tossing a coin.

Mark Zuckerberg regularly shows up on Stanford campus.

@csmoove. The odds of you getting accepted by Stanford is going to be extremely low despite getting into Harvard because you are applying for their most sought after major (CS)…the most valuable degree from any university. You have to understand NOW you will be competing with many of those who already got into MIT and Caltech along with many who got into H, P, Y…many of the other students (like you) want to have a “choice”…but the odds of that happening is extremely low.

…sorry, this conundrum that you speak of does not exist…and most likely will not…and until you get that “golden ticket” in late March I wouldn’t worry about it…and as others have said on the H thread…you will know where you belong (you probably already do since you are applying to Stanford)…especially if you want to be around the best of the best in CS/tech/entrepreneurs in a fun chillaxed environment.

To me it comes down to having the city around you (Boston) or having to travel into the city (San Francisco). There’s a difference if time management is tight.

Wait till you get in Stanford. Then download an app on Stanford/Stanfordofthe_East, and it will tell you.

Just for the fun of playing the mind game…for me it would be all about the weather: warm and sunny Palo Alto vs. cold and wintry Boston.
