Im starting to think that stanford is much harder in admissions and is getting the best, most all rounded students. I see more and more people choose stanford over harvard, what do you guys think?

I know of a couple great athletes with top grades who were accepted to both and chose Stanford. That said, the most recent cross-admit data I could find shows that students who were accepted to both chose Harvard by approximately a 4:1 margin.

There you go. Yale is the closest cross-admit peer to Harvard (who’da thunk?)

I know two kids who chose Stanford over Harvard. One was an athlete, both really wanted the California weather and “vibe”. I know many more who choose Harvard (or, as we are in the Northeast, don’t apply to Stanford at all when they apply to top schools).

Harvard and Stanford are both so incredible in what they offer that I don’t find it the least bit necessary to determine which deserves delegation as THE top university with THE top student body, period. That said, Harvard will probably historically always be the top school, though by a very slight margin.

Rich athletic recruits will always choose Stanford over Harvard because they can go to Stanford for free! (on athletic scholarships). Harvard does not offer athletic scholarships, so rich athletes pay $50,000 to go to Harvard.

ah, both are just simply amazing. nuff said

harvard still has that prestige. It doesn’t matter what, its harvard.

stanford’s not half bad either, ya know

They’re both fine, but for undergraduate: Williams/Amherst/Swarthmore (Pomona if you need to be in California).

Harvard is easier to graduate from. Is that true?

^^I think that depends on what one wants from their college experience.

Harvard’s exceptional graduation rate is largely a reflection of the quality and fortitude of the student body.

I chose Harvard over Stanford. I just didn’t dig the Cali vibe; the Harvard atmosphere is very different than the Stanford atmosphere, and they emphasize very different things.

Damn straight. It’s not everywhere you find folks as hardcore as the ones here.

^^Could you please elaborate on that?
