Hi all, if you guys could give me input on my little problem, that would be awesome. I have okay grades, and test scores and resume that fall in a normal Harvard applicant.

I am being recruited for a sport at Harvard, but I still don't know if I can get in or not. How big are my chances? Harvard's my first choice.

the problems comes in because....Harvard doesn't want me to apply early to other ivies. I was going to apply to Yale SCEA because I know the admission officer pretty well and he said he would talk for me. One of my family members is also an alum there. The coach from Yale wasn't recruiting me but was going to push me in admission if I applied SCEA.

oh and columbia is interested as well, but they said I have to apply to ED. I love the city and columbia is my top three.

thussssss I dunno what to do or where to apply, Yale SCEA, Columbia ED or Harvard regular....the thing is if I apply to Yale or Columbia early, my chances at Harvard are pretty much gone...any opinions?

those are my top three, i love all of them. Harvard's my top choice though. yale and columbia basically made it clear that I have a great chance at admission only if I apply early...I just don't want to give up my opportunity for admission with Columbia and Yale....because that would be disastrous if I don't get in to Harvard regular...

Oh, no, I was laughing at the fact that you consider your grades, scores, etc. "okay" when they clearly are fantastic considering you are deciding which of the top ivies to apply to.

You seem to have an obvious preference for Harvard, so unless there's something you haven't told us about one of the three and how you feel about it, go with Harvard.

Ask Harvard for a "likely letter". If they do not want to give you one (normally sent in early December) it might be an indication that you are not:1. at the top of the coach's list, 2. not academically approved by admissions, 3.not in a sport which has much pull with admissions.

By discussing this topic now, you may get an idea of the liklihood of your admission. Another option is to go with Yale SCEA, have that admission in your pocket and still apply regular to Harvard, especially if there is a chance you could be admitted without a coach's support.

Or, apply Yale and Harvard regular, you may get into both and then you get to choose. Good luck!

the h coach told me specifically not to, or else he won't help me....i think they will know if i applied yale scea
i guess it's to show i am completely dedicated to harvard?

^oh that's not fair. what sport are you being recruited for, and how far do you think harvard is willing to go to get you?

you don't want to hold out for harvard and give up your chances at yale and columbia if there's a good chance you'll get rejected. on the other hand, if you're fairly confident you'll make it in, go for it!

haha what an amazing predicament to be in though. i personally wish i had those 3 colleges vying for my attention=)

If you get into Yale SCEA, very likely Harvard will reject you since they don't want to fight with Yale. But you are at least in Yale. If you are rejected by Yale early, you still have a chance to get into Harvard. So apply Yale early.

from what it looks like....i have a good shot at harvard...heheh hopefully i think at least..i got his word that i am on the list and that I am on the same level as the people he's recruited in the past..
haha...thnx hannah i guess? it's just really difficult because i am afriad I will screw up and not get into all three..

the thing is ewho...the h coach strictly said i can't even apply to Yale SCEA, if i do, he won't help. so i do apply yale scea and get rejected, i won't get into harvard either...does that make sense?

Harvard will not know if you are rejected by Yale. Once people are admitted by Yale SCEA, they can log in and see who are in, but not those rejected. Take your chance. They will reject you once you are in yale for sure. I have not seen many Yale SCEA got in Harvard last year, but many Yale rejects did.
