My HYPS don't lie.

Well, don't worry, most of us won't have to make that choice of deciding between these three schools. The best school will be the one that accepts you, HYPS or not.

In terms of intellect, I'd go Princeton, Harvard, Yale. Have you ever read papers written by each of the three schools. Seriously, the students at Princeton are far better writers than the students at the other two schools.

Duke is called the "Harvard of the South." Stanford's called the "Harvard of the West." Sometimes McGill is called the "Harvard of Canada." No one is the "Yale" of anywhere.

^^^ Brandeis was once called "Harvard for Jews". At that time Jews were restricted in terms of admission to Harvard.

So you've read a huge number of papers from each school, enough to make a judgement? It would take a lot of effort/research to really be able to make that kind of assertion. I know ~12+ kids at each school, and there are amazing/not-so-wonderful writers at each one. I think the schools are all equally good, just in different areas.

Except maybe Yale itself.

Harvard is undoubtedly the most prestigious of the three nationally and internationally. I'd like to say Yale comes next, but it's really a toss up.

HYP or HPY.

This is just insane. The initial question calls for a completely subjective answer -- it's like saying what's the best movie of all time? Casablanca? The Godfather? Citizen Kane?

YOu know what they say about opinions --- everyone's got one. I wonder how many of the respondents to this thread actually attended HYP? I did and I can tell you I've NEVER had this discussion with classmates or people who attended the other two. We just respect each other THAT much to try to "come up on top" of them. Sure we had school spirit and relished our rivalries -- but at the end of the day, there's ENORMOUS mutual respect and that's why I think the rankings thing is TRASH. I'm absolutely glad I went where I did but I would have been honored to go to either of the other two.

An HYP alum

"it's like saying what's the best movie of all time? Casablanca? The Godfather? Citizen Kane?"

The Godfather wins hands down. As for Harvard/Yale/Princeton, I think Harvard wins. Every single person I know is aware of Harvard's existence and excellence. If I were to pick 100 random people who aren't my age and don't really know anything about colleges and ask these people, "What's the greatest college ever," I guarantee that there would be more people who say Harvard than Yale or Princeton. With that being said, does it really matter? You can't go wrong w/any of the 3.

"So you've read a huge number of papers from each school, enough to make a judgement? It would take a lot of effort/research to really be able to make that kind of assertion."

Actually, I have read a great deal of work from all three schools and it didn't require too much effort or research. I have friends and family that write for all three (along with several other colleges) schools newspapers and they mail me every edition so that I can read the articles they have written. I agree, however, that at that level the colleges are all so good it really wouldn't matter which of the three you chose to attend and that a person should considers themselves very fortunate to even have the option of choosing between the three.
