Hello,
I was thinking of applying as a Visiting Undergraduate Student at Harvard next year. Does anyone have any insights how hard it is to get in? I ask because I would be the first person from my university to be part of this unique program.
I am also preparing for the visiting. It is said that besides high GPA, they have certain requirement for outclass activities. Hope someone can give some suggestions.
Did you already apply? @Grace1999
VUS requires all of the paperwork (application, test scores, recommendations, essays) that would otherwise also be in a regular Harvard’s app. Plus, of course, current college transcripts. There are no scholarships, so expect to be full pay. Also, and this is crucial, your current university has to approve for credit at such university the courses you will be taking at Harvard. So, you have to go to the Harvard catalog and actually have some idea what you want. Sometimes universities give you grief about approvals, as they lose tuition (your paying what should have been their tuition to Harvard). From the looks of the classes in the past few years, the students mostly come from overseas, as Harvard replaces its students who go abroad for a year with students who come to Harvard from abroad. They do take US students from US universities, but it’s competitive—not near as hard as the real thing, but still hard.
No…I’m preparing for the spring application.
