Harvard Wait list

We sent, oh, zero. :)

lol, no one from my school has gotten into Harvard for the past 10 years

important factors are:
-how much you want it and likelihood you will matriculate
-end of year performance in academic and non-academic pursuits
-an admissions officer that is passionate about your case, which you can't really control
-institutional needs and adding certain qualities to the class

For Harvard, I think everyone wants it, and likelihood of matriculation is so high that it ceases to be much of a factor.

End of year performance? I take it to mean they want updates then, because they won't be seeing my grades until after I graduate (they're horrible anyways).

No admissions officer is gonna be passionate about an Asian male who takes a lot of math classes....oh well.

Institutional needs...oh damn I'm out.

Does anyone know when we are supposed to hear about the Harvard waitlist?

Last year, the first wave of rejections was sent around the 15th of May. If you don't hear anything by then, you can assume that you are still being considered. It's a big wait.

Wow so they don't start accepting people off of it until after May 15-ish?

no. they aren't going to know how many people they want to take until next week after they finalize yield numbers. I received my call on 6/7/06.

Hey,
Do they want like some kind of report card update. in that case, do i scan my report cards or something ><?? b/c my transcript wont have updated grades until after i graduate in two weeks.
also, i just sent(today) a second updated list of accomplishments because i got 7 additional scholarships and an invitation to be one of two Texas delegates to the National youth science camp. will they see this updated list in time???

Waitlistedgrl: Here's a link to last year's discussion which should give you a better understanding of timing.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=191737&highlight=waitlist

Thanks redsnake that link is incredibly helpful! It looks like I've got another month or so to wait then.

Question about something. I took the SATs in January, and then had the scores sent to colleges. However, I never notified the colleges by email or writing that I had retaken the SATs. Would they still see my scores and update my files without me physically reminding them? I was just wondering.

they probably saw them if you sent them, but you could mention it again if necessary.

Just wondering, because I'd sent them a waitlist update earlier, but didn't mention I'd retaken SATs. Not sure if they'll get ****ed if I bother them again so soon...

I don't really know what to think about the waitlist anymore. I thought it was a kind rejection, but I got a call from Cornell a little less than a week ago accepting me off the waitlist.

So everyone, there's still hope! Good luck to all of us waitlistees.

two kids on my floor got in off last year's wl. so there's hope!

good luck y'alls.

I was on the Harvard waitlist but now don't care b/c Wharton took me off theirs.

And it feels damn good to not be waiting!!!

omg neutralnuke that is AMAZING!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

does harvard send e-mails about waiting list status?

Congrats Neutralnuke!

But I remember reading than in many schools, a large number of students have not sent their replies for admission yet. I thought there was some kind of deadline. Does this mean that the deadline is not enforced?
