Harvard Wait list

we were all on the 2006 US Physics Team

So, how do you know how many people are on the waitinglist and how many will be taken from the list?

Harvard will be taking about 2 dozen (out of several hundred) from the waitlist. Again, PM me if you're curious about where I got that figure.

Thank you. I called the admissions office at one point, but they just said that there were a couple hundered kids on the waitinglist and that there was no way to tell how many they would take. it must have just been to early for anyone to know how many spaces would become avaliable.

Here's today's Harvard Crimson article stating that this year's yield was 79.2% (slightly less than last years of 79.8%) and that Harvard plans to take about 30 wait listed people. I believe historically, the admissions office has slightly understated the actual number of applicants they end up taking, so I am speculating that they may go slightly higher than 30 people off of the waitlist. Also the article states that the targetted class (1662) is slightly less than the originally expected number of 1675. Good luck to all.

They have informed all of the waitlisted people, kept a small pool behind (who should have received an e-mail) and mailed letters to everyone else.

I have received absolutely no contact so I guess I was not admitted. Good to finally know!

karibu88, just out of curiosity, how do you know that?

bump.. same q as above

also, are we notified if we do not get in?

btw, i heard that some people are still notified until june.. so how can they be done mid-may?

my guess is that some of the people harvard has admitted off the wait-list first round will choose not to enroll... thus forcing harvard to take people again second round :)

my guess is simply based on the last year's harvard wait-list thread...

don't lose hope, guys!

btw, I'm also on the wait-list.

i want to know how anyone would know that harvard is done?

"They have informed all of the waitlisted people, kept a small pool behind (who should have received an e-mail) and mailed letters to everyone else."

How do you know this?

I talked to someone today (but I don't think she new everything because she was not in admissions) and that was what she told me. However, she was very vague. I guess this is the mysteriousness of the Harvard admissions process. Good luck everyone. No matter which college we go to, I'm sure we will be great!

then, this is not looking too good... i didn't receive an email

I wouldn't give up hope just yet. The crimson's web update today made it look like they would be going deeper into the waitlist than previous years and that they might not be done...

http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=518919

~30 is better than last year at least.. i just hope these emails didn't go out already.. because i didn't get one either!

to the person who said they got off the waitlist.. how were you notified?

I was told that they already sent out the emails...unfortunately, so the rest of us will receive letters in the mail soon ='(

i don't know about that - i called the admissions office and was told that they would start notifying people by next week

i was notified by phone by my regional admissions officer
