by monday? did they specify what day?

i think i read somewhere that someone has already gotten off the harvard waitlist. there seems to be a lot of conflicting info here. which ones are true and which ones false??

Yeah, LOTS of conflicting info here. Did ANYONE recieve one of these emails already? You'd think at least one CC-er would have, owing to the fact that, if they're taking at least 30 off the waitlist, they probably would've emailed at least 100 people telling them they're still on it... on all other threads, at least one CC-er seems to know when anything like this happens for sure, so if no one's gotten one of these emails yet, I wouldn't say that it's officially over.

Plus, there's still the z-list, which'll be offered to 40 or so for 20-ish spots. I'd say this abbreviated waitlist has got to have around 150 people or so on it, and the chances of not one of these 150 people being on CC to admit to getting an email means that the email probably hasn't gone out yet. Unless someone can confirm recieving it, that is.

i feel like im repeating myself here, but here i go again. they have already begun accepting students off the wait list. i'm 100% sure of this as i was recently offered admission. since there are so few acceptees, the admissions office is calling PERSONALLY those who they've chosen to admit (they give you about a week give or take a few days to make a final decision). i don't know how far the are along the process or how many phone calls they've made, but i know for certain that the process has already begun. to my knowledge those who have been/will be offered admissions will NOT be notified by e-mail.

Do any of you guys know how many ppl have decided to stay on the harvard waitlist?

no 10 char

simianantithesis, sorry if it sounded like I was doubting you, but I wasn't. I definitely do think that those who get off the waitlist will be notified by phone, and I don't doubt that the calls have begun. I'm just suspicious about the statement that everyone who is still being considered was notified by email, and that those of us who haven't been emailed (which seems to be everyone on CC) are being taken off the list.

the suspense is keeeelllliing me. but there's a fine chance that maybe none of the people who got these aforementioned emails are on college confidential--after all, harvard's extended waitlist, if they have one, is probably really short. and college confidential isn't really as mainstream as the people on here believe, i don't think. i guess we'll find out tomorrow what's really happening!

purplecroissant, I personally do not at all think that the "extended waitlist" is short. Think about it--they're trying to fill at least 30 waitlist spots, which means that, to be safe, they'll probably take at least 70 on the waitlist to use to fill those spots. Then there's the "summer melt" and potential of admitting more even as far into June, which probably bumps that waitlist number up to 100. Take into consideration the z-list folks and you're looking at a decent number of files they'll be keeping around a bit longer.

And while I agree with collegeconfidential not being "mainstream," I think the fact that at least 7 or 8 people who were admitted off of Penn's waitlist out of the only 20-25 people who will be admitted off the list in total says something about the chances that one of these "emailed" folks would pop on to share their news.

It does seem suspicious. All of the regular admissions decisions were e-mailed and I can't imagine why Harvard would want to wait to inform the people who are being removed from the list. It makes more sense that they would just send out e-mails and we would all know if we had been removed

well hey, trust me sphairistic, i hope to god you're right! :) i'm trying to deprive myself of hope here.

Does anyone know how many students in the HARVARD waitlist ? if they only take 30 from waitlist this year, what will be the percentage ?

I don't think anyone knows the exact number but whn i called I was told "a couple hundred" and I saw similar estimates earlier on the thread.

I too was told that there were several hundred people still in the running from the waitlist.

Rejection letters for waitlist students were sent out yesterday.

How do we know that, tabula?

Bahhhh.. crosses fingers

Good to know, finally. Hope it's true.

Has anyone received a rejection letter yet?

Because some people in MA have already received them, and the date on the letter is May 18th. :) So, perhaps Monday for other people?

Has anyone got an email notifying them that they're still on?
