I just hope that the yield goes down for this year >.<

Also, if you send a letter (email) to Harvard, how do you identify yourself? Just put your name?

I just hope that the yield goes down for this year >.<

Also, if you send a letter (email) to Harvard, how do you identify yourself? Just put your name?

Yeah, I need to figure out how to identify myself in the email. I want it to be signed though. :)

I did call the admissions office today and the lady was super nice, but didn’t give me any info for my regional rep. (Anyone for the LA area?) HOWEVER, she said to mail or email anything in that I thought would add value to my application and that they would review it. So, I’m going to my principal tomorrow!
She also said that you can’t request a z-list, so I think it’s best to leave it out.

Also: she said make sure anything you want to be read is in by May 1.

Now to work on the letter some more! Should I provide a bit of an explanation for my low SAT score? (I do have a reason.) At the same time, I feel like explaining kind of comes off as *****y.

Last night at my Yale admitted students reception in my local area, there were three cross-admits. I did my best to sway them to Yale – I said, “If you turn down H’s offer, you’ll make someone on the WL very happy”.

Here’s something for you: hope and pray for excellent weather at Yale’s Bulldog days and hope and pray for hurricane-type weather for Harvard’s Visitas days!

that is funny - pray to the weather gods to get into Harvard!

If I’m honest Harvard would be the perfect school for me, from the location to the amazing financial aid to the obviously stellar academics. Good luck everyone, I sent Harvard an email like a week ago to find my regional rep’s info but they never responded. Hope its not too late now…

With the surge in apps (but not applicants), there are likely many cross-admits. Yes, Harvard is at the top of the food chain, but it stands to reason that yield rates would be down as a whole this year.

redguard - get whatever you want to get to the admin office by May 1, and you’ll be good! (They don’t read files till then.)

Some great posts here.
I was accepted to Harvard, but I will be going to Yale. One thing I made sure I did was that I took myself off the waiting list immediately, at all my schools, and I politely requested that my spot be given to someone on the waitlist. Just yesterday, I got a call back from DEAN FITZSIMMONS telling me that my spot would be going to someone. I hope it’s one of you guys!
Honestly, colleges care about the SATs way more than one would think. The thing is, one Saturday morning could be your course grade. I agree with FelixFelicis, I’d admit the higher SAT candidate than one with the same credentials but lower scores in a heartbeat.

Regarding ^

Be wary of this last post. I’m fairly certain beatlesdisurbed is a ■■■■■.

well most of his/her posts seem to be consistent, but i can’t believe Dean Fitzsimmons would call an accepted student… A bit of a stretch. Although it really doesn’t make a difference if its true or not I guess.

^hmm I think it might be true too…but that’s not important XD.

Anyone emailed regional rep and received a reply?

Oh and…second semester grades won’t be taken into consideration right…?

Not a ■■■■■. I will be honest, I do know some people who know same people, so I’m guessing that’s why. I doubt his call was as much real as much as it was a polite gesture.
I do see where you’d get that assumption, but I’m not a ■■■■■.

I emailed my regional rep about a week ago and got a response today!

[High School Senior Promises Not to Publicly Urinate on Harvard Landmarks if Admitted > Admissions, Harvard, Prospies, this is why people hate the ivy league | IvyGate](http://www.ivygateblog.com/2011/04/high-school-senior-promises-not-to-publicly-urinate-on-harvard-landmarks-if-admitted/)

What do you guys think about stuff like this? Sure, it’s creative, but it also comes across as completely desperate and kind of pathetic. I genuinely think a mature, well-written letter would have been much more effective than a song promising not to pee on the statue of John Harvard (which is great, considering it’s not even a statue of John Harvard
).

She just ruined her chances of getting accepted. Honestly if Harvard admits her now it will face public ridicule and a slew of similar dreadful videos from future wait-listers who think it will help their chances.

If the video had been wonderful–great singing and witty lyrics, it may have helped her case. As it is, with a so-so voice and unimaginative lyrics, it may due more harm.

(As an example, the video response by Jimmy Wong to the UCLA ‘Ching-Chong’ video–that video is fabulous and powerful.)

Someone wrote:
“Haha, I definitely didn’t apply as a wannabe math major (or concentrator, haha). In fact, I think I made it pretty clear on all of my applications that I didn’t want to do anything math- or science- related, which is why it upset me when my applications to top 15 schools were summarily rejected anyway. It also bothers me because it’s not as if I’m incapable of doing the math on the SAT - I aced trig and precalc, although I am aware that most everyone on these forums could do that in their sleep. I just can’t do it within the time constraints of the SAT.”

I find this post telling. I don’t think that Harvard wants to hear that a person wants nothing to do with math or science (or anything, for that matter). It is looking for the really well-rounded student who might major in physics, enjoy his/her philosophy classes, and try out for the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. That’s what makes it a top-notch liberal arts college; it wants its students to be open to all kinds of learning.

And there just aren’t enough places for all the qualified students (OK, I’ve beaten that horse to death in a number of places on this forum).

beatledistrubed–think about it-- why would Fitzsimmons call a student who has turned down Harvard–and then say that Harvard was going to give his place to a WL student?-- they admit more than they expect to enroll–they will have no idea if they are even going to the waitlist until May 2. Maybe someone was playing a joke on beatledistrubed and pretending to be Fitzsimmons, but–somehow–I doubt it.

sparkleflower, what did ur regional adm say??
