@vpa2019 or essential workers like healthcare professionals or diplomats. So the Crimson is confusing bilateral travel bans with this new ICE decree.
To correct my post…Belarus is NOT part of the Covid travel ban. My apologies.
@vpa2019 Oh, thanks. So it was an ICE impact then.
Let’s not forget MA has a 14-day self-quarantine requirement which I assume H has to comply with. That’s for humans from anywhere except New England, New York and New Jersey.

Good for Massachusetts.
@MaineLonghorn We shall see…
Just look at Texas now. It’s not rocket science.
Thousands of kids from TX, CA, FL will arrive MA in six weeks.
And?
And? Nothing… beyond feeling lost… Hope Cal is not the preview of a movie we hate to watch. Or for some, have to live through.

Curious, are you from Maine or Texas?
Unlike NY, MA is asking people to quarantine if from other states (besides those listed) but not enforcing.
@LimboKid, you sound like you are feeling quite pessimistic. Are you an incoming freshman? I found the town hall for freshmen/parents last week to be very encouraging about life on campus. They have a solid plan for testing every 3 days, and that should help get the virus under control. Once under control, restrictions can loosen. But calling it solitary confinement even in its strictest version is silly: kids can socialize outdoors (surely there will be tents to facilitate this regardless of weather); are allowed to go throughout Cambridge and Boston; will not be limited to takeout in their rooms (they mentioned options for dining halls and also tables outside); and if things go well, they are improving the ventilation/filtration in common rooms and there will ultimately be options for using the common rooms in new ways. They also said there will be access to libraries, gyms, and music practice rooms (of course with limits, given that we are living through a pandemic!). So yes, freshmen will not be allowed (under current-but-possibly-flexible-in-the-future restrictions) to socialize in their dorms in major ways (they are likely to have suite mates, of course), but they will hardly be alone all the time. Most kids are social and will figure it out. It won’t be a normal year, but that’s really true pretty much everywhere on this earth. And of course the first year experience office is working their tails off on plans for building community, etc.
Clearly they are subscribing to the “underpromise/overdeliver” philosophy–laying out the toughest restrictions to start, with plans and hopes to make adjustments as the pandemic situation allows.
If you are an incoming freshman, I think you should take heart! Start getting yourself excited. This will obviously not be optimal (anywhere), but you will have some funny stories to tell your grandkids about your freshman year, and surely if you make an effort, you will also have made lifelong friends starting this fall, too. Best of luck to you!!
I agree with you @EmptyNestSoon2. My son was pretty happy after hearing about the likely conditions, and says that others on the groupme were as well.
It’s the classic “I’m on the waitlist for Harvard, disappointed they didn’t accept me so I’m going to bash the college any chance I get.”
