Schools:

Brown
Howard
Duke
Xavier
Franklin & Marshall

thanks in advance!

i’d say you ahve like a 35% chance. apply! you might get lucky! BTwe my brother is a junior at xavier and he loves it there! good luck!

I think that if you can raise your SAT score to the level of your psat score, you will most likely get accepted to all the schools on your list.

Even with your current SAT score, Howard, Duke, Xavier, and F&M are quite reachable. Harvard, yale, and Brown are less attainable, but definitely possible considering the fact that you are a black male with a low socioeconomic status.

best of luck!

you are very smart.
you have a good shot.
you should add UVA + William and mary on there.

bump bump…

hey I’m an avid trumpet player as well. how good are you? and what state are you from?

I think you have a good chance at any of these schools.
But since I have been looking quite heavily into Howard (it’s my number one choice at the moment), I am more fit to answer your question in regards to HU.

Not only am I certain that you have above and beyond the stats neccessary to get in…you are eligible for multiple scholarships.

Even if you don’t get National Merit semifinalst, you are a shoe in for National Achievement semi-finalist and most likely finalist status as well. With that, you are eligible to recieve full room, board, tuition, and a stipend from HU. Additionally, with your SAT score you can probably get (depending on combined math and reading scores) scholarships ranging from tuition to tuition, room, board, and stipend.
Here’s a link to their scholarship page!

[Grants, Scholarships & Fellowships - Howard University](http://www.howard.edu/financialaid/grants_scholarships.htm)

p.s. in case you didn’t know, National Achievement is a program similar to National Merit…but is strictly for African Americans. There is also Hispanic Scholar for those who are hispanic.

I think you’ll be in.

how are my SAT scores looking for Yale EA? I’m definitely retaking and aiming for a 2250+, but if by some tragic event i don’t score any higher, where will I stand for Yale’s EA round?

You have a decent chance. Better than most people. But, it’s still likely that you will be either waitlisted or flat out rejected.

Try to get that SAT up as high as you can.

Harvard - Low reach
Yale - Low reach
Brown - Low reach
Howard - Safety
Duke - Match
Xavier - Safety
Franklin & Marshall - Safety

Feel free to disagree if you wish, but it’s just my opinion based on the stats you have now.

bump bump…

Oops, should fill this out for you:

Harvard: Waitlist/Reject
Yale (EA i guess): Defer, Waitlist/Reject
Brown: Waitlist/Accept
Howard: Accept
Duke: Accept
Xavier: Accept
Franklin & Marshall: Accept

What more do you want to hear, and about what, specifically?

I’m aiming for s 2250+ on the SAT, but what score lower than that would still put me in a safe place?

No score will put you in a safe place for Harvard and Yale. There is no safe place for those schools, even for a URM. Your current grades and scores give you a reasonable shot at all those schools, and a higher score would increase it by some unknown amount. My advice to you would be to add a couple of more match schools to your list.

bump bump…

congratulations on everything you have accomplished, what has been your motivation?

I think you should have a great percentage of acceptance from those schools, however (like everyone says) Yale and Harvard are crazy and unpredictable, but never give up hope because you have a great chance!

^thank you

and bump…

If you attain a 2250+ score you may choose to apply only to Harvard, Yale and Brown because they will be safeties for you…

You’re a rare gem–AA male valedictorian, low socioeconomic status, good SAT scores and ECs.

To be honest, you have an extremely high chance of admission as you stand now–you realize that your current SAT scores are above the 99th percentile for AA males?

I wouldnt be surprised if you got into Harvard. Not at all. But then again, would I be surprised if ivies rejected you, no. 2100 is the gate. Just get that, your fine.

Be VERY strategic about ED/EA applications. I would use your early on the school that A) has been known to give good aid to students in your financial and race categories B) is a school that you would be very happy attending, and you have a reasonable chance of attending. Look into more match schools that have very good programs, up there with HPYS (just not as recognized) that are more prone to give you really good aid and, first and foremost, accept you.
