Harvard XC/Track

Anyone else hoping to grab spots on the track or cross country teams? I'm a trackie myself. Anyone else for sports?

what mile times would look impressive to harvard? is 4:46 competitive enough?

My son ran for an Ivy a few years ago, he was a 4:24 hs miler (1600), super xc runner, actively recruited. 4:46 would probably not be good enough for the coach to bother, but depending on Title IX considerations, etc. you might be able to join the team if admitted.

Best thing to do is call the coach, he can answer your question better than anyone on this board. Are you a senior?

I don't think 4:46 would be competitive considering many Ivy races are being run in the 4:15-4:30 ranges. Whatchadoing, I'm an 800/miler who walked on a D-1 track program (after having applied to all the Ivies in high school) so if you want any track application advice or training tips, I don't mind giving them out.

From my experience, if you are a miler/800 guy (with MEDIOCRE XC times) then you need a 4:30/2:05to be competitive with an Ivy if your application stats are decent. If you have nice test scores (2250+, multiple APs) then those times become huge draws because all coaches realize they can take that HS 2:05 and cut it to around a 1:56 by the end of the season, easy.

If your TEST scores are on the average or low end, then I'd say you'd need more of a 4:20ish/2:00 to really make a dent on the coach.

Just pm if you want more info.
