very very difficult for hyp man. you gotta somehow stand out as a unique person. not happening here :(

"I am the creator and coordinator of programs that occur 2 times a year, and have raised money during these programs to send kids in india to school (i have raised enough money to send 50 kids to school)"

I think that's pretty special. Work on the SAT, especially since you're an ORM. Try to find something you really enjoy doing, and focus on that, since you're EC's seem kind of scattered (shame really, but that's what colleges look for). Write good essays.

Lastly, do you think that you are among the best candidates out of the people applying to those kinds of schools in your school? city? region? HYPS etc. do make decisions based geographically as well.

P.S.
I feel dirty for saying this, but I was accepted to Yale and Princeton this year, so maybe my opinion weighs more than hraghuvir's. :P

if by chico you mean chicago, note that it gives VERY limited fin aid to internationals.

I'd say a tough bet for HYP with the scores, though you seem to have good EC's but yeah I agree with thevillageidiot, you gotta focus on a couple of them to make yourself really stand out.

I'd say if you focused more on your classical music and martial arts as a talent and your social service (which I think is brilliant by the way) and the Debate/Stock Market leadership stuff you really are a well-rounded candidate.

Still, gotta pull those scores up though, I'm an ORM as well and an international and I think the only thing that stopped me from being outright rejected from a couple of top-tier schools were my SAT's. I was barely top 10% of my class and my EC's were far inferior to yours for sure.
Oh btw I was rejected from Harvard/Yale this year and got into UChicago (if that's what you mean by Chico)...not enrolling there though

what indian music competition did you take part in?

thnx for all the responses!
would anyone know what the average score for someone who got accepted into harvard is? i will be retaking my SAT's.

Megavortex7, TANA and Silicon Andhra. do u no of any good competitions for carntatic vocal singers?

elastine,
im not an international, i just meant to say that i am of indian origin (not born in india).

@thevillageidio,
my highschool in california tends to send 1-2 kids to top schools every year. just this year, a girl from my school got into harvard.

uphill battle,
would u mind posting ur stats? and by chico, i meant chico state. it is actually a really nerdy joke (cuz the average kid their gets a 1400 on the SAT, no ecs, 2.0GPA). i just put it up there for the heck of it.

alright, i didn't realise you weren't an international, might boost your chances the slightest bit up

I don't really have stats which you can compare with, I take the IB diploma so I don't have a GPA, universities see my predicted score and the IB grades I get for each subject at the end of each term. Predicted grades are also kept secret so the student can't bug their teacher to up their predicteds, so I don't even know what my predicted grades are, I'd guess somewhere around 39/42 without bonus points.

Only other comparable stats are SATs
SAT I: 2340 (1600 V+M) can't seem to crack the writing section
SAT II: 790 Math II, 780 Chem, 780 Bio M

If not international...

HYP- high reach
Chicago- you'll prolly make it, just put a lot of work into the essays

hahahahahaha! to the OP, i thought for a second you were dumb for posting chico instead of chicago. My bad. Once i read l8r down that you were really making fun of chico state i thot it was hilarious. Ive met tons of people who have graduated from Chico. Funny thing tho is that all of them seem to be significantly less intelligent than I am...but i have yet to even go to college. Chico is perhaps the butt of all my college disses and jokes. haha
