Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT Cross-Admits for Class of 2014

To the OP, this is a futile exercise. You are going to get similar results as you got for the last two years.

(@MSauce: I predict that midatlmom will argue how the data is inaccurate.)

Go YALE!!!

Is this entirely non-sensical “survey” really in its third year? While the exercise is futile, it does seem to offer a bit if comical relief. However, sadly enough, it also seems that one is trying to draw … conclusions from this “data.”

It’s just that when no college can really get the drop on Harvard in terms of need-based aid, it becomes hard to overcome its “spectacular fortitude”.

If I recall correctly, Revealed Preference was based on actual results… what else would it be based on? It’s just that the “conclusions” drawn from the Elo Rankings of colleges (such as how the New York Times did it) do not necessarily represent the actual results it was based on.

He wasn’t implying that.

I never said he was. I’m saying it.

Also, can I get a reference on your claim that Yale, Princeton and Stanford will match Harvard’s need-based aid?? I have not looked into this personally, but based on some posts on this forum, this doesn’t seem to be true.

This was my question.

True. And they will be on google’s first page soon.

I did not realize that you enjoy it, like a kid in a toy store. One thing is true that nobody knows the real cross-admits, including HYPSM themselves.

MSauce–regardless of the date that the NYT published it, this is not a new or updated study–this is the same Avery study based on data collected in 2000. The Avery paper was published in 2004, but the data was 4 years old by then. Here’s a link to the study http://www.infogoaround.org/CollegesChinese/RevealRanking.pdf

xrCalico23–I don’t need to argue it, because that has been done numerous times on this board, with most agreeing that the study has significant flaws. Maybe you and MSauce should go back and review those discussions, since neither of you appear to understand when the data was collected, relying instead on the date when the NYT decided to print some data from the study.

Omega–

Princeton actually has the reputation for the best aid, but in all honesty, HYPS are all about the same. Some people will get 20K from one of the HYPS, and maybe 10K from another HYPS they want to go to, and they’ll just call up their intended school and say “Look (H/Y/P/S), I really want to go here, but (H/Y/P/S) is offering me about $10,000 more.” And the Financial Aid officer will say “We don’t match offers, but maybe we’ll take another look at your stuff.”

Then 90% of the time the offer gets matched. Sometimes people legitimately get better deals from places that other HYPS schools don’t match, but that’s relatively rare and happens at all four schools, not just Harvard. While Harvard has the largest endowment by far, it makes sense that Princeton would give better aid, as they have more $$$ per student.

Posting for some people who I know won’t post

If you think sampling admissions results on CC has some sort of application to the stock market, knock yourself out. Maybe you would have more luck on the Business School forum. But in the meantime I’m here talking about cross-admits. Let me know if you come up with any cross admit sampling method that has any validity, because your current one has none.

eatingfood–I don’t mean to doubt you, but I think that posting for four additional people is probably not what the OP had in mind when he listed the initial rules

eating food: I am deleting what you put in. PM me for the sources so I can verify, and let me put them on here.

Same thing for everyone else. At this point every year, about 40 people self-reported, and the rest I had to put in. PM me for the CC links and let me put them on.

I started on April 30, the last day people had to commit, and at the same time put referral threads on all HYPSM forums, tried to be fair with every school. I tried not to put them up too early to influence those who had not made their decisions. There are some biased towards Stanford and MIT since their threads are less active compared with HYP, especially when JA2 put up a thread at Princeton forum. This is best I can do, or anyone can do. remember this is top guarded secret at HYPSM, and nobody has any real information about this, though someone told me that he had the exact cross-admits from Harvard.

The next step is to search the CC posts to put the them here. It has to be verifiable with a link. Help me if you can.

This all thing could become a self-fulfilling prophecy when it sticks on google’s first page for too long.

I also have to thank those who put their info here. I know how difficult to make those decisions as I was there once.

Take it easy. It is not worth it.

midatlmom, I happen to know perfectly well when those data were collected, and I also happened to have read some of the CC discussions on this topic, hence I said that you may argue how this data is inaccurate. That was not meant to in any way imply that I agree with the study itself, only that I think you’ll find flaws with it. My questions were intended to gauge your opinions on the topic, and I’m sorry if you find them offensive.
