I will have taken eighteen courses (including two foreign language courses) and two semesters of Physical Education in May. That's 65 credits.

I asked the admissions offices, but they did not respond: am I eligible to transfer?

I attend Columbia. Hoping that some of the Core Classes don't transfer so I can avert a debacle.

From the Y website:

http://admissions.yale.edu/transfer#eligible

Since each class at Y is 1 credit, except FL courses which are more (1.5?), my guess would be that you probably won’t qualify as a transfer applicant, but it’s worth asking Admissions.

Not sure why you think Core classes wouldn’t transfer.

How many credits you have for admissions purposes and how many are accepted by the transfer school are two separate questions.

It comes down to what Yale means by “similar” courses. Some of the Core classes I have done, I wouldn’t call “similar” in content to Yale undergraduate courses.

I’ll ask on Monday.

Just out of curiosity, why are you looking to transfer out of Columbia? The reason I ask is because I am applying to transfer there for next year.

Don’t be deterred. Columbia is a great school. Harvard, Yale, and a few other colleges seem better for my academic and social interests.

If none of the schools to which I am applying accepts me, I will not mind staying here.

I see. I feel the same way about my school now: would be better served elsewhere but can make it work here if it doesn’t work out.

Update: Harvard and Yale told me that I’m OK. I hope that is true.

Good luck, all.
