Harvard, Yale?

I'm a bit apprehensive about my class rank not being representative of my academic abilities and work ethic, and not having one major hook to draw me in. I also don't really know what my EC's look like to outside eyes. Honest, and overly-critical evaluations are greatly appreciated.

GPA: 3.93 (94-100=A scale, I don't have any B's)
Class Rank: 7/314, competitive NY public school
SAT I: 2390 (790 W)
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 World History, 800 Chemistry
APs: 4 5's, 1 4. Will take four classes and one self-study next year.

ECs:
-Music: Classical/jazz drummer, honors orchestra three years (principal Sr. year), honors jazz ensemble three years. Also heavily involved in administrative/outreach work to keep our small program afloat (I officially hold an administrative position).
-Lacrosse: Have played club all my life. Club team won a state title Jr. year, I co-captained that team. Three-year varsity, two-year starter, won county and state titles. At one point high school team ranked #2 in NY, consistently in top 10.
-I've been involved in a lot of tutoring, both volunteer and private. Sophomore year I was just involved in a school program, junior/senior year added tutoring of less affluent members of lacrosse team. (~2-3 hrs/wk)
-Science olympiad, not a huge commitment, but will be captain Sr. year.
-Environmental activism, worked with school administration to forward a couple environmentally-friendly initiatives that stemmed from heavy participation a summer program.
-For fun, I am a music/film buff. I'm a guest DJ at an independent radio station, and plan on providing links to a couple of shows somewhere in my application.

I can count on top-quality recommendations from counselor/teachers.

I plan on applying to:
Yale
Harvard
Columbia
Brown
UChicago
Williams
Amherst
UPenn
Swarthmore
St. John's College

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your application looks great, especially with those standardized test scores and gpa. dont worry about your rank, cause it wont count against you.
Any chance of being recruited for lacrosse?

If your essay stands out~You have great chances~With HYPS [Wharton] you just have to keep in mind that no-one is guaranteed an acceptance :D

You're no guarentee for schools like Harvard, and Yale. I think you'd have a chance for Columbia and Brown and Chicago, and Upenn. The rest you should be alright for.

you're in the top 5 percentile, near perfect SAT scores and perfect SAT II scores with 4 5's and a 4. really good EC's
you're in most places imo

While I could conceivably be recruited for lacrosse, and although I've loved the sport and sports in general for most of my life, I've grown uninterested over the last year and don't want varsity athletics to define my collegiate experience. It's frustrating knowing that a lax coach could get me into an H or Y, but I just wouldn't be happy doing it.

Thanks so much for the help everyone.

great stats- the tops are always crap shoots- aka harvard/yale etc- but good luck

I'm pretty much in agreement with flare. I'll post more later.

bump? more opinions would be great.

Damn... very impressive lol. I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said but you have a great shot and good luck.

great essays and teacher recs. will get you in.

Here's my second post, didn't mean to put this off.

While you'll have a 4.0 after schools adjust your GPA (I'm almost positive that even top schools take off pluses and minuses when recalculating to standardize with schools that don't hand out pluses and minuses), 97% is a touch low for class rank. You've obviously got some intelligence and study habits with those scores, though, so you're definitely academically qualified. If you can pull your rank to 4-6/300, and if your APs come in like you expect them to (I'm guessing those aren't all from soph year), you're going to be very academically qualified.

Your EC's lack focus and an immediate draw, but I can't believe that all successful applicants need to have their passions figured out by the 10th grade here. You seem well-rounded and interesting. Can you count on recs and essays to highlight your better parts and prove that you can be a dynamic contributor? If so, with a little luck, you can get into one of HY. Best of luck.

Did you honestly not know that you could get in anywhere?

i think you're set.

that's a solid list in light of your accomplishments.

like innvvervisions said, your EC's aren't stunning, but i don't think most applicants have killer EC's, i think EC's are really just there to push the borderline candidates across. make your essay great, and you sgould be in.

Do you go to stuy? just wondering...

No I don't; I'd feel much more comfortable if I did haha.

I have never responded to one of these, but as a parent I would say that you have as good of a chance as any! You have a wonderful work ethic, and great potential. I think your ec's are very strong- a passion for music, the environment and are healthy enough to play a sport that you enjoy. What more could anyone want. I don't remember what your awards were ( getting too old) but that could be a goal this year and summer- to try and find some way to be "recognized" for the things you love. It seems silly to have to do that but it is really the only way that "schools" can see that you have talent and are willing to put yourself "out there". Good Luck you have shot for the moon and are sure to land among the stars!!!
