Harvard...

Is it worth the shot?

Sure, why not. You only have three things to lose: the $75 application fee, the relatively small amount of time it’ll take you to do the Harvard supplement (a few simple questions in which you select your answers from a drop-down window, as well as an optional essay that’s prompt-less), and the hour or so you’ll spend on your interview.

You should probably also consider the emotional effect that applying/not applying will have on you.

If Harvard is a school you’ve always wanted to attend, maybe you should give it your best shot. If you didn’t, would you always look back at the moment you decided not to send in an application with regret, wishing you had made another choice?

On the other hand, if you’re considering submitting an application “just because it’s Harvard,” and not because you are a good match for the schools or the school is a good match for you, perhaps you should rethink your philosophy. You ought to be realistic with yourself and consider whether Harvard is a realistic option for you. Since this is a question only you can answer, I urge you to ask it of yourself. I think that you will come up with an answer.

Considering that you won’t be applying for about 5 or 6 years, many things can change. Why don’t you actually get to HS before worrying about Harvard?

It’s WAAAY too early for you to be worrying about this.

Well, here I was thinking OP is a rising senior.

OP, honestly speaking, your mind will change so much by the time you get to where I am (applying to college) that you won’t even recognize any attempt you make at a list now. The focus for you at the moment should not be whether or not to apply to Harvard, but should be on getting involved in ECs and loving them. Of course, if in 5 or 6 years, you still are on the fence about Harvard, I say go for it. There is nothing to lose except for the things stated by aleaiactaest. As of right now, focus on excelling in, making the most of, and ENJOYING high school! :)
