Harvard

Yeah, yeah, I know, everyone wants to go to Harvard. And so do I. A LOT. Now, I know I'm not extraordinary. I never cured any diseases, discovered any new laws of physics, or travelled to any foreign countries saving orphans. But I did visit Harvard Yard once and decided that it would be a blessing upon blessings if I could spend 4 years there.

So, how's it looking for me?

I'm caucasian and female.
My father attended Harvard Business School, but I don't think that will help me out in regular admissions.

STATS:

Class Rank - (not released, but I'm near the top, not valedictorian/salutatorian, but high-ish)
Courseload - Very difficult
APs - English Composition 5, Biology 5, Studio Art 5, US History 5, Euro History 5, French Language 4 (BOO, my only 4)

ECs:
Cross Country

Swim Team
French Club (President)
French Honor Society
Various writing awards and essay contests won
3 years as a camp counselor

My greatest strength is my writing ability, and probably my ability to impress in an interview. I think my essays will be excellent (nay, I know they will, because I will write and rewrite them until they're worthy of publication and inclusion in a high school's core lit program). I also think my teacher recommendations will be very strong.

So help a girl out.

which essay contests?

besides those writing contests--if they are prestigious enough--you stand a very limited chance. Nothing reaks of exception. Those writing awards, however, may be your savior.

Academic Index score is about 215 and no ECs or hooks that make you stand out. I give you about a 30% to 35% chance of acceptance. You would have a much better chance at a lower Ivy. You'd be about 45% at Penn, and about 50% at Cornell.

Post your rank if you can, since Ivies go by rank, not by GPA.

P.S. The fact that your father went to HBS does make you legacy--and will increase your chances slightly.

Weighted rank or unweighted rank?
