Harvard's stance on extra recs?

I had two academic teachers write one, as required, but I'm also thinking about having my music teachers write one (either one combined letter or two separate ones)...would this be overkill/frowned upon?

I had sent in an extra rec from my principal....

As long as you don't submit more than one or two extra recommendations, and the extra recs are genuinely useful in providing a different perspective on you, it should be ok.

do the extra recs need to be on the common apps forms, or does the teacher simply send in a letter?

look at the Harvard College Admissions website... in the FAQ... it says you can submit exxtra refs, but they recommend no more than two or three. So you're fine. I'm submitting extra ref's too (b/c I took a yera off) but if you're ref's show something new then it is def. a plus. I just had my reference write it on letterhead and I think that's al you need to do... esp for a music teacher.. how ca he/she comment on academic achievement as outlined in the common app teacher ref?

thanks guys.
