I wish to be an engineering major, but my ACT is pretty high and my SAT is average, yet my GPA still leaves something to be desired. I've taken every higher level math and science class my high school offers, and my schedule consists primarily of AP classes. I'm fairly active in my community, holding VP positions in three different organizations, and I also work eight to sixteen hours per week. (I swear I'm not trying to brag; just give background information.) Even with a sub-par GPA, can the rest of my information balance that out?

Harvey Mudd is an SAT-only institution. That both of the main academic components of your application might be sub-par for HMC is not good. It might be a good idea to work on your SAT score. Don't forget that they require SAT IIs as well, which are easier to study for. Show the school that you can handle the work load and you really want to go, and you should have a good shot anyways.

Don't worry about bragging on this forum; you kind of have to tell people your stats and activities for them to give you good advice ;-). Even if you were bragging, you wouldn't be the first.

Thanks for the advice. Do you go to Harvey Mudd, or are you applying there now?

I'm only an applicant, but I've read a lot about it. It sounds like a really unique, neat school.

Good luck in the admissions game.
