Fort a long time Harvey Mudd was... I believe... the lone holdout of schools that did not accept the ACT. Well, as of Jan 25, they have changed their policy http://www.hmc.edu/headline/ACT.htm. Does anyone know if there area any schools out there that still do not accept the ACT?

oops, I just read their press release-- they in fact say they've been the lone holdout, the only school not accepting the ACT. I guess I answered my own question!

(** too bad I didn't catch the typos in my previous post either!!... )

I guess that's good news for all the SAT haters who want to go there...

they said they were the only "major" school not accepting the ACT.

are there any others? I haven't heard of any...

As far as I am aware, Harvey Mudd was the last college holdout of any colleges listed in any of the USNews Rankings (top to bottom). It was not the lone holdout "for a long time" because Wake Forest made the change only last year. There are still some colleges, such as Pomona, that will not accept the ACT for ACT tests taken in a country other than the US or Canada.

Interesting... This is what was written in the HM press release..

"January 25, 2007

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Harvey Mudd College (HMC) will begin accepting ACT test scores as part of its admission application process starting in 2007-08, ending its holdout as the lone four-year college or university in the U.S. that did not accept the test."

"There are still some colleges, such as Pomona, that will not accept the ACT for ACT tests taken in a country other than the US or Canada"

No no no no no. Pomona accepts the ACT. It took me two minutes to find this information on their website. You should do a little research before posting things like this.

You misunderstood my post. Pomona has long taken the ACT. What it does not take is the ACT if you took the test outside of the US -- that affects many internationals but not anyone who takes it in the US. In its admissions materials it states (see last sentence):

"All candidates for admission are required to take either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT. Candidates who take the SAT Reasoning Test are expected to submit results for two College Board SAT Subject Tests. Candidates should schedule the SAT Tests or ACT to allow at least one month between the test date and the appropriate application deadline. Students must request that official test-score reports be sent directly to the College from the testing agency. The College will not accept results of ACT examinations administered outside the United States."
