Harvey Mudd Presidential Scholars Program

I am trying to decide if I should apply for the full-tuition scholarship At Harvey Mudd. The website describes it for students who:

have the potential to be future leaders in engineering, science, mathematics and technology, and who are from backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented at Harvey Mudd College or are the first in their families to attend college.

What does "backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented? I also am not the first in the family to attend college. I do have potential to be a future leader. Should I still apply?

^I assume it means women/minorities/first-gen/low income/etc.–essentially anyone who isn’t a rich white/Asian male (“stereotypical” tech people).

They give out very few of these so don’t get your hopes up

My son won one some years ago. He was considered “underrepresented”.
