I have already applied for the scholarship, but am curious about the selection process and experience.

Does anyone have any input on either, beyond what is on the Harvey Mudd website?

Sorry kiddo. I don't have anything for ya...

Since HMC is so small, it is hard to find anyone who knows more about it!

The bigger the prize/reward, the bigger the competition.

Recent experience with an applicant offered this scholarship: was notified about being a Finalist in the acceptance packet received by mail early in April, asked to complete a mid-April interview on campus (really an afternoon/evening of scheduled events), travel reimbursed, on a Saturday before an accepted student's Sunday (or could interview via phone). Scholarship offer was via email on April 18. There were about 50 Finalists, about half were offered the scholarship, and 11 who matriculated out of an entering class of 200+, though in other years it has been 8 or so in each class. Bear in mind that the number of freshman applicants overall was about 2500 last year, though can't tell you how many applied for this particular scholarship. But IF you are selected as a Finalist, odds of winning the award are better, maybe, than for some other school's biggest competitive merit awards?

Impression that Mudd uses scholarhip in part to pull in (compete for) top students also accepted at other elite institutions like Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, Ivies, Olin, Cooper Union etc.

This is an exceptional award from an elite institution--good luck!
