Hi- I am a female, rural accepted applicant to all of the above. It wouldn't cost me anything to go to HMC or CMU, but it would cost around $25,000 a year for Harvard and UChicago. I want to study biochemistry, but I am not completely set on that since I haven't had enough upper-level classes to know for certain. What should I do? It would be very difficult for my family to get that much money together for the latter two schools.

oh pu-leeze. Go to freaking Harvard.

If you have like an EFC of 0 or something then you can consider HMC or CMU (of which you should pick CMU).

How did you find out about your HMC decision?

They told us at the corporate scholars weekend.

To AcceptedAlready: I received merit-based money at HMC and CMU that covers everything.

you would get more attention at the LACs, if that's something you're looking for. combined with full merit aid and probably a science major, I'd actually go to Harvey Mudd...PLUS, weather would be a big plus if you're looking for a nice change. :) SoCal is kinda polluted though....and dry....and has like no trees...

but then again, EVERYONE gets lured away by the prestige of Harvard. (or at least, 80% admitted ppl do)

I am kind of thinking CMU today... but keep in mind that my mind changes every day...

Harvard Harvard Harvard Harvard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sick of everyone asking me and not having an answer. At least I know they are all good schools; maybe I will just pick one.

Harvard would allow you to drop the infamous H-bomb everywhere later in life; however, your education and undergraduate experience at one of the other schools may be better than or equal to what you would experience at Harvard. If money is a consideration (and $100,000 is a big consideration), maybe Harvard wouldn't be the perfect place for you. Harvey Mudd and CMU are both very good schools.

Harvard, don't need to think. Harvard has very good bio program, and Boston is one of the biotec center in US.

you should forget about UChicago

Harvey Mudd. It's one of the best LAC's for science. Harvard undergrad is overrated. You can go there for grad school if you like, but you really have to consider what you want out of an education.

If you care about prestige: Harvard
For an education at no cost and top job opps/salaries: CMU

For what it's worth, I have a friend at Harvey Mudd who absolutely despises it and is transferring out to Cornell next year.

Are you seriously telling me that you can't choose between some blahblah colleges and HARVARD~!! This is your life.

Harvard~!! This is your life we're talking about. There is no comparison

Harvard..that fin aid package is acutally quite generous ..lol you are too funny

well, daniel, you are putting harvard on a pedestal.

harvard does not necessarily have the best academics for every subject....

HARVARD: all the way
