Does anyone know how tied the Harvey Scholarship program is to “adversity” or financial need? A FAFSA filing is required and the main essay is about adversity faced.

Stumbled across your inquiry and looking at the others on the Harvey Scholar program at Mines I thought I might be able to shed some general light on the subject. It is an awesome program that is so much more than financial assistance provided, which is substantial. It is a very strong group of peers to navigate college with. The bonds that tie are academic strength, responsibility and service minded. There is mentoring within the group itself as well as regular lunches and activities where the Harvey Family themselves meets with and interacts with the students. It does have a travel abroad component as this was an important part of Mr. Harvey’s college experience and he believes a world view important to the development of the next generation of engineers. It is a great program and speaks highly of your student if they were even requested to apply. Could not more strongly encourage anyone who has the chance to apply.

Thanks for the response. Fingers crossed!

Has anyone that was invited to apply for the Harvey Scholars Award 2014 heard anything, yet? Son applied, and we understood the semifinalists would be announced today, but, so far, no email or other announcement either way here. Anyone else?

I am waiting to hear as well.
