Has anybody heard for GSP yet?

hows this:
December 13, 2005

Dear Maneet,

Thank you very much for your application for Early Decision admission to New York University. We very much appreciate your interest in NYU.

We have just completed our review of your application and I must inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to the Leonard N. Stern School of Business. However, I am delighted to tell you that your application has been selected for the General Studies Program (GSP) Year in London. I congratulate you on your selection!

Each year, as we review applications, we select a group of students who we feel can both benefit from and contribute to NYU by beginning their studies as freshmen in GSP. GSP is a two-year course of study in the liberal arts. You will spend the first year of the program at our campus in London, England. Your sophomore year will be spent at our main campus in New York City. The GSP curriculum emphasizes the Great Books, with instruction in small classes by full-time faculty, creating a small college atmosphere within the larger university. GSP students who meet the minimum entrance requirements for the NYU bachelor's degree program to which they applied originally are guaranteed admission to that program as a junior, at which time they will have completed most of the liberal education requirements for their bachelor's degree. Attached to this email is a document answering more questions you may have regarding the General Studies Program Year in London.

You will receive a formal offer of admission to the General Studies Program Year in London shortly. In most cases, of course, Early Decision students who are offered admission to NYU are expected to enroll. In your case, because you were not offered admission to the program to which you applied, you are not bound by the Early Decision Agreement to enroll. However, if you decide to accept the offer of admission, you must pay the tuition deposit by the date indicated in your acceptance letter to confirm your space in the program. Once you pay your deposit, we will consider you to be bound by the Early Decision Agreement, and expect you to withdraw any other applications you may have submitted.

I sincerely hope that you take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to become a student in our General Studies Program Year in London.

Sincerely,

R.V."Dan" Sarmiento II
Senior Assistant Director of Admissions

and I applied ED to NYU and EA to Babson.

Like I said, I don't know anyone who knows anything about this London GSP connection and I have several friends currently in Stern. In any case, if you'd been referred to GSP, you would have had to make your decision by now.

yeah anyways did you apply to stern? and do you think the GSP program is worth doing?

okay what ur saying maneet is obviosuly BS... because u dont get all this time to decide... you would have had to made a decision over a month ago as to wehther your attending and not asking us now if its worth doing.

This post is ing weird...there is a florence gsp program, but there is no London one as far as i know. if there is, and you can still take it, then do it..seriously. London will blow your mind..., you'll get to experience the two greatest cities in the world at college!

Then again, there is a study abroad program in London...so it is possible.

Yeah i had no idea about the program in London either, anyways sorry for not clearing it out earlier but I have told NYU that I will be accepting but my counselor said that i could withdraw if i wrote them a letter or something, which is why i was asking if the program is worth doing.

I don't think she's bsing:
http://www.nyu.edu/global/london/

no-one is denying a study abroad program in London..you dont understand the issue.

i really don't see any issue going on (nor is there a reason to create one). maneet obviously accepted the offer already for a gsp program in London, but just wants second opinions on the program so that she/he can confirm his/her choice, otherwise she/he would withdraw. regardless, maneet- im sure it'll be a really rewarding experience to study in london!

^^I agree. People are unnecessarily nasty to each other on these boards.

Well, I think you made a good choice. Is is more expensive, tuition-wise, now that you'll be spending your first year in London? I really want to hear from nyu!!

Spending your first year in London is gonna be sick. Anyone know if NYU offers this program anywhere else besides London and Florence? How awesome would Madrid or Barcelona be?

I still am skeptical about the London thing. And no, Maneet, I didn't apply to Stern. I'm a sophomore in CAS, currently AT NYU. That's why I'm skeptical. I've never heard of this gsp London thing and neither has ANYone that I know! Of course, there are study abroad options in London and several other cities around the world but Florence is the only GSP location for freshman.

In any case, if you've accepted GSP, you're now bound to go. You should have withdrawn any other apps you've made. The supposed letter you posted above tells you you're bound. What are you doing now considering Babson? That app should have been withdrawn weeks ago! Your counsellor is absolutely wrong in saying all you need to do is write a letter to withdraw. You're not playing fair here with the E.D. system and you could very well end up with nowhere to go if NYU finds out. There are E.D. lists which circulate among colleges and every year there are kids who play this game and find themselves automatically rejected everywhere because they're not being honest.

Yeah I thought I had to withdraw immediately as well but my counselor said I didn't have to if i was still unsure. Anyways I've withdrawn from Babson and I'm visiting NYU in a week or so, so I'll get more information once I'm there. I also received a FAQ on the GSP Year in London, so if you or anyone else wants more information on it, give me your e-mail and I'll forward it to you. I think i'm going to post a question whether this is the first time they're going to do the GSP in London on the NYU Forum website and i'll let you knwo what they reply. Thanks for feedback anyways.

Maneet what were your stats like? Sat, gpa......

matth: stop being a jack***. the world doesn't revolve around you. just because you've never heard about it does not mean it doesn't exist. if its a new program, it would make sense that no one has heard about it before.

i tend to think it doesnt exist either; a little strange that no ones heard of it

regardless, i'd love to hear from nyu any day now. i've been reading the featured discussion about the gsp prgm acceptances last year.. getting antsy!

I got my GSP letter (applied to CAS). It was dated Feb 9.
