Has anyone been accepted to URI yet?

thank you , ConfusedMom

URI does not have honors college… they have an honors program. My D is a first year animal science student in the honors program. We never received notification about it, but found out she was eligible when we went for accepted students day last spring and inquired about it. They said they mailed a letter to us, but we never received it. Take a look at [University Honors Program - University of Rhode Island](http://www.uri.edu/hpr/Program.html) details on eligibility.

By the way - she absolutely LOVES it there!

My D was accepted to URI nursing program with 9500 per year merit. Very excited. Also accepted to nursing programs at Quinnipiac, UNE, U of Maine

Twoinschool - congrats on the acceptence and the $!! Is UNE Univ of New England in Maine?

ConfusedMominMA…Yes, it is Univ of New England in Maine. The first two years are at the Biddeford, ME campus and the second two years are at the Portland campus.

My son (Film major) just got an acceptance email on Saturday. They said they will be sending out a letter soon. This was for regular decision.

I see a lot of merit number in here that seem low. Is that standard with them ?

We’re from NJ

What were your stats for acceptance to URI NURSING?

My son was accepted EA for the BFA theater program, and also was offered a nice academic scholarship. We haven’t visited yet but will make the trip (from Virginia) later this spring when he finds out his other options. Any comments about the theater program or the school in general would be very welcome! Congrats to all. :)

Son applied EA to the Pharm program and still has not heard anything yet. Looked like they needed his 1st semester grades (which they have now received) so I wonder if he’s borderline for acceptance into that specific program? His test scores are well above requirement, but his GPA dipped a bit in jr year. Has anyone else who applied EA not heard yet?

I applied EA and heard last month, I applied medical laboratory science/ premed and got 12,000 a year!! But @bearvet, uri gets a TON of applicants for pharmacy cause it’s the only state school in new England with the program so I’m sure they just take time going through everyone, and I’m sure you’ll hear soon! Anyone else from mass? Looking for a roommate !

@Bearvet

My D applied EA as well. She is OOS and outside of the region as well. She was asked for mid year grades too. No word yet. She is WELL qualified for the University but probably a little on the low end for Pharmacy. 1840/2400. 3.87 weighted GPA. Thankfully, she had straight A’s during her first semester this year which includes among other things AP Calc and AP Bio so we are hopeful that will help. She attends a RIGOROUS private school where at least 10% of the class goes to the Ivies each year. Her high school college counselor called and spoke to the admissions people at URI and he was told that she won’t hear until the end of March…UGH!

On another note, does anyone know if she would still be eligible for a scholarship?

I got accepted nursing last week with a 28k scholarship with an SAT of 1700 and high number of ECs.

Oh! I forgot to add that I also got into the Honors Program for Nursing! (This however is not my top school so it is a backup at the moment!)

Well, I guess we continue to wait - but it’s hard! I’m not sure of son’s current GPA, but SATs were 2030/2400 in 1 sitting and ACTs were 32. So I think he’ll get into URI, but maybe not the Pharm program…we shall see. At least now I know he’s not the only one still waiting, so thanks for the input. We are OOS, but within the region. I’m just surprised that EA decisions take that long.

When did you apply for the nursing program?What was your gpa and courseload for nursing acceptance? Thank you for sharing!

Anyone from mass

And my stats were 4.0 weighted gpa, 1700 SAT, ap classes include ap us history, ap environmental science, ap English literature, ap English language, ap Spanish, and ap bio… 200+ community service hrs and tons of honors classes, and I got 12,000 a year, although I didn’t apply for nursing I hope this helps @springisintheair

@Bearvet…

The fact that your son has such a good SAT score and he was asked for mid year grades scares me since my D’s stats are clearly lower!! On the URI website, it says that the “average” Pharm D incoming freshman for 2012 had a 4.1 and a 1960 (I think that’s right). Thankfully, I realize that with “averages” some will be higher and some will be lower. My D has been accepted to Pitt, UConn and USC for pre-pharm but we like URI because it is a 0-6 program and it certainly has the nicest facilities and a brand spanking new dorm for Pharmacy students. They also have a 100% pass rate on the NAPLEX so I think URI (while it may not be my D’s “dream school”) is the best fit. Of course, we do struggle with the fact that URI is one of the lower ranked Pharmacy programs on her list but at the end of the day, as long as they come out with a degree from a reputable school with good job placement services, that’s all that really matters.

As for the EA taking so long…because they were asked for mid-year grades, they’ve now been moved into the RD pool (sad face). Good luck!

Does anyone know how many nursing students are accepted each year. And do all of the freshman advance to sophomore year?

My D’s status just changed to this…

Thank you for your interest in the University of Rhode Island. At this time, we have all of the information we need, and we ask for your patience as we complete a thorough review of each application. Please continue to check your status regularly. The majority of our decisions will be posted by the end of March.

We appreciate your interest in URI!

Majority by the end of March?? UGH!!! Is it too much to hope that since the status has changed that we can expect a decision sooner rather than later???
