Thank you!

No, I'm not international (I live in a small town in Louisiana), and the e-mail surprised me too, but they said a formal letter has also been sent. And no, I didn't do early decision. I applied regular decision and I postmarked my supplement materials on exactly January 15th, haha.

If RD stands for regular decision, then yes I guess. Hmm, my stats...like awards and such? They're actually not that great. Pretty routine. No community service, as I mentioned above, and no leadership positions. My club involvement is great, but I fell short of a 30 on the ACT with a 28. I didn't even take the SAT. Three people read my essay and gave me good feedback, so that may have helped me.

GPA: 4.429 (4.0 unweighted) I'm on track for Valedictorian. (Honestly, my school's academics is a little lacking...there are FOUR others in my class with the same exact grades as me, and we only have 149 students). I've taken all the hardest classes at my school, but that isn't saying much considering my school. It only offers one foreign language, and only two years of it at that.

Club Participation
4 Years in Student Council & Renaissance
4 Years in Quiz Bowl
4 Years in Track & Field (Won some awards here my sophomore year and broke two school records)
3 Years in FBLA (Missed nationals by one spot last year...darn)
3 Years in ETS (aka the most useless club ever)
3 Years in GPA
2 Years on the Yearbook Staff
2 Years in AOS (drama club)
1 Year in the Science Club (club was discontinued)

Academic Honors
Woodsmen US History Award
Elks award (once a year)
Scholar Athlete (once a year)
NSHSS (which I don't place much store in TBH)
Ventures Scholar (same with NSHSS)
National Honor Society
Ace Letterman

I've won a few minor competitions and rallies, which I mentioned in the "extra" portion of my application, but as you can see I haven't done anything particularly special. I've noticed Oberlin places a lot of emphasis on diversity, so I'm sure my race played a factor. The reasons they stated for the early decision included participation in their Multicultural Program.

Right now, I'm waiting on Reed, Pomona, Swarthmore, Vassar, Northwestern, and Yale. But I'm not holding my breath! I still have to send out some Midyear Transcripts and fill out financial aid forms. Yikes.
