just checking

Has anyone heard anything yet!!!??? D2 received paperwork and info about several programs including forms to apply to the honors program several weeks ago. Deadline for honors program app, which requires ANOTHER teacher recommendation is March 15. Does this mean anything? Was it a mass mailing??

we also got the same forms. So I think it is aq standard kind of thing. We haven't heard anything yet. Son checked his email and nothing from them or Lewis and Clark. He did get an acceptance to Santa Clara University today though.

my daughter received an email saying there were "new capabilities" on the cascade.ups.edu web site. I guess the new capabilities are related to financial aid status, but it turned out that her admissions decision was also posted. She was accepted! Her response: "Oh, yay, thank god I won't have to go to Oregon or a UC." She likes UPS, but her first choice is Occidental.

I also received the email about the "new capabilities" and honors application, which I filled out. I signed into my account this morning to look at these new capabilities and saw my admissions decision posted as well, admitted with $8000 scholarship (minimal considering the full tuition). rix, congratulations to your daughter! did any of you apply to the honors program or have any idea when those decisions will be posted?

fireonice25, congratulations to you! where was your scholarship amount posted, on the admission status page or the financial aid information page? The financial aid status page said my D had not applied, which is not the case... but can't really follow up on that until Monday.

Son got a Congratulations email too and a $6000 Presidents Scholarship. Got it this morning.

Duaghter received WELCOME letter this morning along with $8000 Trustee Scholarship. She did apply to Honors Program. App deadline March 15, we have no idea when that decision will come.

Can any one please share their impression/opinions of living at UPS, the importance of student opinions of the profs quality, living in Tacoma. When we visited we saw the eastern side of town which looked very industrial.

sweetkidsmom: I'd like the same info. When we visited the kids my daughter spent time with told her that more than 80% of the students have cars. They LEAVE Tacoma for Seattle and Portland. She was told about weekends snowboarding and playing on the Oregon coast.

Yes, thats the same thing we were told. I got the impression that there wasn't much to do on campus during weekends and Tacoma looked a lot less interesting than what Seattle offers I'm sure..

Accepted with Trustee's scholarship. Applied to honors program.

S accepted on line 3/4, dean's scholarship $4000,applied 1/29,considering filing honor's app. no interview but thorough essays(used UPS app)Re privates: only applied to UPS and santa clara, otherwise UC(s), cal poly slo. applied to privates at last minute due to concerns re UC(s). In at SCU, UPS, SLO. Seriously considering UPS, Sister in law, a few years after obtaining her Phd at UW, taught at a few schools for a year each, filling in for sabbaticals, including UPS, L& C and I think Williamette and U wash. She has nothing but highest praise for the faculty and admin at UPS. Although she liked the other schools, states the attention, mentoring, classes etc at UPS was the best she has ever encountered. She is currently chair of science dept at a comm college and has kept up to date with the NW schools. She lives in Tacoma, shared similar observations as sweetmom re: the city. I will be in Seattle on the 18th on business and will visit UPS and tacoma.

yes the info for me was on the financial information page. i'm sorry it isn't working for your daughter, i'm having difficulties with online accounts at other schools though so i know what a pain that can be. best of luck!

Congratuations to all.

My perspective is very dated, but there was always stuff to do on campus or around when I was there and there is more around now. Tacoma isn't as exciting as Seattle, but its also not as much of a distraction. And Seattle isn't that far if you need a fix, its not like you are in Walla Walla.

My S is going to college a free 20 min train ride from Manhattan and even that gets old after a while.

My son has been accepted but has not heard about financial aid yet. Anyone else in the same boat?

On the admissions status web site, it said that my D had not applied for financial aid. It turned out that since she did not list her SSN on her admission application, they did not match her FAFSA to her file. They have since uploaded her FAFSA, and now the web site says "We are now determining your financial aid award. We will send your award notice shortly." The financial aid office web site says award notification begins March 15.

Son got a great financial aid pkg today. It was on the cascade site later today.

I got in, and it's one of my top choices, but I'm still waiting to hear from some others. I also just found out that I got the Trimble scholarship (for Chinese), which makes me quite interested in going there. We shall see.

How did you find out you got the scholarship?
