I was deferred from UChicago recently and was wondering if anyone has gone through a similar process and been accepted. I've read a lot about how to show continued interest in the school, but I'm specifically wondering what someone did as a deferred applicant for UChicago. (Maybe you sent in a video of you playing the flute and hola-hooping? I don't know.) I'm considering submitting a quirky essay I wrote last year for English class. Wondering if anyone has experience submitting strange things as UChicago deferred applicant and actually being successful.

UChicago recommends that you write a thoughtful email to your regional admissions representative about why UChicago remains your top choice.

Also, about 10% of the deferred students are admitted during the RD round, so it’s definitely not hopeless. The overall admission rate for UChicago is like 8.8% (according to US News & World), so being deferred isn’t all that bad.
