Just curious about those who, like me, are still waiting on Chicago... Anyone hear from them? Is there any hope?

so they are going to the waitlist already? psh..i hope i get in..

i smell a stalker!

uhhh... okaaay haha i'm stalking you collegekid1988. and I"M GAY HOW ABOUT THAT.

no. not really.

How about you take this over to Cornell University 2009 or the PM inbox, boys?

i think the letter lies about admissions off the waitlist when it says 9-29% of students who said yes to the wait list. On another thread, it said that in 2003, out of the 1000+ people offered a spot on the waitlist, 82 said yes and 68 of them were accepted. According to the Maroon (UChicago paper), in 2004 650 people were offered a spot on the waitlist and 50 were admitted. Common sense tells me that not even close to all 650 said yes to the waitlist, so a greater percent was admitted. then again, this could be my desperate attempt to convince myself i will get out of waitlist limbo...i know of 4 people who have heard already...things aren't looking to great right now...anyone else heard anything?

Yes, my daughter was offer a spot today. Needless to say, she is accepting!

sdla123: Congratulations to you & your daughter! Be sure to add your news to the Final Decisions thread on the Parents Forum http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=843705#post843705

hi! I am hoping to get accepted off the wait list. I have sent in some extra material including a essay, a letter, and another letter of recomendation. Do you think these things helped my chances at all?

This persistent gentleman was offered admission after having been waitlisted.

hmm...has anyone got their admissions package yet?

this is offtopic but im a junior and i dont know how this waitlist stuff works

so why would anyone say they didnt want to be put on a wait list assuming they want to go to the college since they applied... are all the people who turn down the waitlist people who got into better colleges or is there some catch to waitlist?

lbtg:

no real catches to a WL. most likely they were accepted into other colleges, not necessarily "better" -- perhaps a lower tier college offered a great merit aid package -- free is very enticing!

My S was wait-listed at a couple of his "matches" and accepted at his "reaches". He withdrew from the wait-lists to make it more likely another student could be accepted since he chose one of the reaches.

some may not want the hassle of putting down a deposit and registering at one school only to be pulled off of the waitlist and have to withdraw from the first school

an update... after my guidance counselor spoke on the phone with the regional admissions counselor, it seems my course of action is to 'wait and see'. It's incredibly frustrating... I plan to continue emailing.
