Hello Calpoly applicants. I was wondering if anyone has actually been rejected from the My Calpoly portal yet. I heard of acceptances, and wait lists, but no rejections.

I’m still waiting on a determination. I’m an Electrical Engineering major, and that is a huge and impacted major at poly, so could that be a reason why they’re taking so long?

Business major-still waiting on a cal poly decision. In for poli-sci at Davis, in at LMU, USD, SDSU .

Waiting on cal poly too..arch major accepted at csu chico, univ. of oregon, asu.

My guess is that all unaccepted applicants will be rejected at once on the website and that they will get a letter before it shows up on the web.

^^^lakeside--is that an educated guess? -or just a "worse case scenario" guess? I'm waiting, nervous and sensitive! I hate the word "rejected".

i'd say it's pretty much accurate for most people...

Desk: Educated guess, no one would invest the resources in individually handling rejection notices. They would more likely make a blanket change in status in the data base for all those not admitted. Being a glass half empty kind of guy, they will probably do that at 11:59 PM on March 31.

my hs counselor is going to make a call to slo about rejections.
i will keep you all posted.

thanks jackht27, I will be waiting for your next post.

I don't remember where I read it, but someone said last year a TON of rejections came on March 15th and pretty much every letter after that date was a rejection. Again I don't remember where I read it but that's what I remember.

P.S. I was accepted as a Poli Sci major =)

O here is where I read it. Second post down:

congrats!

what are your stats Sora000??

I think I can disprove the whole March 15 myth now.
Calpoly has already opened up housing half a month before April 1st, which is the final decision deadline. The catch is that you have accept their acceptance to be able to even begin pursuing any housing. The people that instantly accept, quickly tell admissions how many people of the accepted will actually attend, and of course the people that take their time accepting the acceptance shows that Calpoly is not their top choice and their is a good possibility that they will not attend.

From all this, admissions can figure out how many more they can accept for the rest of the month, because they will know how many of the accepted applicants so far will not attend the school.

These little statistics are gold for admissions, and it really helps make their job easier.

But this is all my theory. If anyone has anymore evidence to back this theory, or disprove it, please reply.

Thank you :)

Great post amirjpl! Your theory makes a lot of sense. The college wants to hit its enrollment target exactly so that they do not over or under utilize the resources they have. Its like mailing out a bunch of checks and only having enough money in the bank to cover half of them.

It would be nice, however if we knew what to expect. Many of us would not have applied to multiple schools if we knew we were going to be admitted, otherwize we could find ourselves in a community college in the fall.

thanks lakeside. My basis came from the fact that housing was such a disaster last year, and because they started housing so early this year, and many people including myself are still undetermined by March 15th. In addition to this, a poster from another thread that actually just visited calpoly got the information that they have to admit even more people than last year, because they just built new dorms. These are all very hopeful factors.

So I would have to say to all the "undetermined" people, that we still have a chance, lets not get our hopes down now. We can still get in. :)

NDHBMATT power! ;)

Really? I read many posts that said Cal Poly is accepting LESS people than last year, and that the new dorms were built for sophomores.

The updated information (straight from Cal Poly) was that they will be accepting a slightly larger amount of people this year. The new dorms are mainly for sophomores and up, but this leaves the other dorms vacated. :)

That's good to hear. I still have No Determination on my portal though.
