I have been reading all these threads for the past couple days and still haven't seen anyone saying they got rejected. It's also making me nervous because everyone on here is so smart!

SO, I have two questions.
1. Has anyone been rejected yet?
2. Can someone chance me? I know I'm not up there, and my GC said I have no chance of getting in, but I really hope I atleast have a chance.

GPA:
Unweighted: 3.53
Weighted: 4.8

3.2/4 GPA-Freshman Year
3.4/4 GPA-Sophomore Year
4.0/4 GPA-Junior Year

SAT:
1690, 550 cr 560 m 580 w
Took the ACTs... Hoping I did better

CLASS RANK
120/460
top 26 percent

Parents are alumni, very good essay, TONS of ECs, applied for summer, in-state, and applied early October.

I think you well get in because of the summer option, good luck

Your GPA outweighs your SAT scores. You should be fine.

Remember that most people who get rejected aren’t going to think to first come online and tell everyone what stats they had to get rejected from a school.

I will. I know that if I get rejcted I’d be online the same day alerting others of my rejection. Telling rejection stats is just as important as posting news of your acceptance. Its how paranoid seniors determain the colleges “cutoff range”.

i will most definitely tell you if i get rejected! although i’ll be really upset… haha but i want to let other students get a better look of what psu looks for and everything, especially since i am a bit below average.

I will definitely post here, especially after how many questions you guys answered

QucklyTea youre like the only person here who can relate. We both submitted our apps at around the same time and are still waiting for a decision. And hoenstly its kinda nerve wracking when all the people around us keep posting acceptances. My status hasn’t changed in almost 2 weeks now. I hope I get acepted and I know it’s still really early but the longer I wait the more I feel like I’m just waiting to be let down.

but you guys will definitely be the 2nd people I tell. Scond only to my parents.

I’m sure my son will be rejected, and I’ll post because the rejection posts are almost more helpful than the acceptances. No one believes me when I tell them that “Penn State” has jumped more spots up the US News ladder in such a short time than any school in recent years. For our school (large public NJ) it was the “go to” place for the “average student” and the 8 year Naviance report shows like 220 applicants 170 accepted with an average weighted GPA of 3.56 and SAT score of 1120. LOTS of current applicants with cousins and neighbor kids who made the cut a few years back, are in for a rude awakening!

@ephenst
Yeah, I’ve been checking my status every hour for the past week.

You have a 4.8 weighted GPA, yet you are ranked in only the top 26 percent? I think your high school is guilty of massive grade inflation.

I agree with Setsuna…

4.8 should be top 10 if not top 5 percent. And to drop from 4.8 to 3.5 after weighting is strange. Is every class weighted or something?

My school is REALLY weird with the weighting factor. I actually don’t understand it at all, it’s not out of any particular number. I tried figuring out what its equivalent to in other grading systems but I can’t really figure it out…

I think PSU will look at your GPA and know that a 4.8 is ridiculous unless you took tons of AP’s, but even then your class rank isn’t that impressive. Your school’s grading system is messed up. My school had the same problem. A:4.8 B:3.6 (for Honors classes) Colleges noticed and complained so now we use percentages. But, good luck.

I don’t take any APs but I take mostly all honors. I’m guessing my system is like how yours was? It’s highly annoying! Thanks though haha

there is a recent post from someone rejected from school of nursing; stats:
SAT I (by section): 690CR 650M 620 W (1340/1960
- APs: AP Spanish, Chem, English, USH2
- GPA (UW, W): 3.6ishUW 4.6W
- Rank: 15%UW 10%W

this applicant did not have all application material in by Nov. 30 and did not specify a branch campus as a second choice.

I have heard of people in my area who have been rejected at PSU main but accepted for branch campus. I have not heard of anyone rejected from branch campus.

One of the things that I think is interesting is that Penn State says they give NO preference to in state vs. out of state applicants. I don’t know of any other flagship u. that says that.

Probably because the commonwealth doesnt pay the school to keep x% reserved for in state students. Does it? Idk I could be wrong, but that’s my best guess

I’m pretty sure you’re right. I believe Temple and Pitt are like that as well

I heard that someone was rejected by Penn State York. She applied for nursing. Her GPA was probably like a 3.2-3.4 weighted and her SATs were about 1400-1600. I don’t know the exact stats, but apparently it is possible to be rejected by PSU completely. She was a terrible applicant on paper. To get into PSU good grades, good SATs, and good ECs are needed and expected.
