We have seen waitlists on CC into Newhouse, Whitman, etc.....but I haven't seen any into CAS...

maybe this solves the mystery of being placed into second choice majors and waitlists...

Seems like there is no rhyme or reason; there are some waitlisted into Newhouse or Whitman but not given second choice and others are in SU but not in the schools they applied to? Is it possible that it depends on whether you specified a specific major in the school? I wonder if the undecideds into those schools are "second/third choiced" and those with specific majors are waitlisted? please post whether you specified....

Rodney – she had indicated the Television, Radio and Film major within Newhouse as her first choice.

BTW, I went to the admitted students function in the Washington, D.C. area last night, and they confirmed that to get into Newhouse as an internal transfer, you apply after the first year and they look solely to your GPA at Syracuse – and they expect at least a 3.5 for admission to Newhouse. They said that approximately 150 students get admitted in this manner each year.

yup, that’s true…a 3.5 internal transfer has been kind of standard for the past few years…btw, I think 150 is a lowball number (or my daughter personally knows the entire 150 kids who did this)…
I think when she entered as a Newhouse freshman, it was explained that the target class as freshman is around 350, and then it is doubled by the time they graduate…maybe they were including transfers from other colleges (outside of SU) in that number…?
